Basketball drills for technique attack / offense

  • The attackers are not allowed to move from their spot.
  • They play the ball around and if they get the chance, they try to score
  • The defenders have to run They try to prevent a goal from being scored
  • When defenders are too static and stand by an attacker, you can do 3 things
    • Or force the defenders to run by telling at least one of them to run towards the attacker with the ball
    • Or tell the attackers they can take 2 steps.
    • Or draw a square on the ground where the attackers can move.
    • After 5 attempts, the defenders change with 2 new defenders.

basketball-attack

  • One person shoots free throws.
  • Two other players stand behind the one who throws the free throw.
    • According to the rules of the game
  • Once the ball is gone the three players go for the rebound.
  • If the person who made the free throw has the ball, he can make another free throw.
  • If he doesn't have the ball, the 2 other players go to the other side of the court to attack, 2 against 1.
  • If attacker is pressured by defender then go to free man, otherwise keep going until lay-up.
  • The next three players get ready to execute the exercise.
  • Players stand ready at the halfway line. The first one has a ball (then 2 without the ball).
    • X1 makes lay-up
    • X2 takes rebound and passes in (after scoring!)
    • X3 runs around the pot and starts defending
    • X1 and X2 attack to the other ring

  • variation: with 5
    • X1 makes lay-up
    • X2 takes rebound and gives in (after score!) to X3
    • X3 dribbles over, X1 and X2 fill in the outer lines.
    • X4 walks around the basket near the baseline and defends.
    • X4 runs around the ball at the halfway line (other side) and defends.
  • Two teams both 1 basket 1 team starts with the ball and plays 1v0 at the basket of the other team 1 chance
  • Then the other team attacks the person from the first team now goes to defend 1v1 so in the other direction
  • On this side, another person of the first team joins and it becomes 2v1
  • Etc.
  • three groups of two per basket
  • try to make qualitatively equal pairs
  • How?
    • 1 pair in front, 2 in forward positions
    • take turns making a drive, alternating attack/defence
    • First of the pair to have 5 points, wins.
  • The player gets the ball thrown to you
  • Do a crossover and shoot the ball at the first position
  • Do the same at the second position
  • And so onshot-drill

Goal:
train
split
the low post

Organisation:

  • 5 stands extremely deep, near the bottom line
  • as soon as 3 starts to dribble, 1 starts to screen for 5
  • he crosses over to the block on the other side (picture 2)
  • 1 fills the guard position (picture 2)
  • as soon as 3 has matched the post (5), he cuts across to the ring
  • at the same time, 1 sprints to the corner for the shot

5 has 3 options:

1) adjust 3 for the lay up2
) adjust 1 for the shot3
) play 1 against 1 himself against 6

Teaching points:

  • timing: the pass to the center must come at the moment it arrives on the block
  • at the split, leave enough space for the (bounce) pass.
  • 1 sprints straight to the corner as soon as the pass is hit, so that defender 4 is hampered by cutting in 3 and his defender

Variations:

  • in preparation run 3 against 0 and systematically go through the various options.
  • left and right
  • Cut below

  • wave-8
With 3 men on the back line and the middle one has the ball
  • The middle passes to a man and runs after the ball
  • The man in the middle passes to the man on the other side, who also runs after the ball.
  • They do this while running to the basket on the other side.
  • When someone is close enough to the basket, the man runs a lay-up.
  • He becomes the defender and the other two attackers must try to reach each other with a long ball.
  • The goal of the defender is to prevent the attackers from scoring.
  • If the attackers do not manage to score, they must do 5 push-ups.

wave-8

  • Centers + Guards + Forwards
  • from U14
  • 2 or more players
  • 1 ball per pair
  • two baskets

Prerequisites:

  • players must be able to dribble a layup run

Objective:

  • to increase offensive creativity in 1v1

Organization:

  • player 1 passes the ball to 3 and gets it back immediately
  • 3 moves backwards
  • 1 dribbles straight at 3 and has to close the distance between both players
  • Unbalance and pass the defender
  • Full speed to the basket
  • Loser will defend, winner will attack
  • Play up to the 3 to keep the intensity high.

Teaching Points:

  • attacker must aggressively close the gap
  • Dribble straight at the defender.
  • throw the defender off balance with a feint.
  • Attacker should be unpredictable.
  • only choose which side to pass on at the last moment
  • Use feints in the dribble
  • after passing at full speed towards the basket cut off the defender by dribbling ON the line of the defender
  • basket
  • after the pass, the defender has to sprint at full speed to pressure the lay up

Objective:

Reenact all the exercises, which the trainer is demonstrating.

Task:

The players stand in a (half) circle so that everyone can see the trainer. The trainer shows some exercises. The players mimic him/her. Keep the balloon in the air by tapping it up in the air. Try to clap your hands as much as possible between each tap.

  • Hold the balloon in your left hand and dribble the basketball with your right hand. Successful? Try with your other hand.
  • Now hold the balloon high above your head and look at the balloon. Keep dribbling with your other hand. Change hands after 1 minute.
  • Dribble the basketball with your right hand and hold the balloon with your left hand. At the whistle, change hands without losing either one and without stopping dribbling.

Dribble the basketball with your right hand. Try to keep the balloon in the air with your left hand by tapping it upwards. Can you do it with your other hand?

  • communication: outlet calls
  • after the lay up join the line near the basket where you scored
  • the dribbler returns directly to the outlet after the pass and for the next ball

Variations:

  • (to teach the attacker to finish at full speed under pressure)
  • Have a defender walk up to the attacker during the layup to distract him visually (no physical contact).

  • both players run the same 2 on 0 break as on the way out
  • but now on the other longitudinal half of the field

Variation:

  • put 1 defender at each basket
  • defender catches ball and gives outlet pass
  • and becomes flyer
  • shooter becomes defender
