Basketball drills for technique passing

  • Create square, 3 against 2.
  • Team of 3 must pass X times without dribbling.
  • Points of attention:
    • Pivot well, protect the ball, pass well, stay calm.
    • If someone gives bad pass (arc pass) then whole team push up.
  • Czech Square
    • Chest pass.
    • Bouncepass.
    • Push pass.
    • Overhead pass.
  • Show us where you want the ball!
  • Passing in such a way that the receiver does not have to hold back, but can simply run on.

  • Rows of 5-6 men, 2 per basket, 1 ball per row.
  • Throw ball against the board, next player catches and throws again immediately against the board.
  • U12-2 must catch ball in the air.

Start under basket, 2 players pass back and forth in the run to center line...at passage center line in man with ball the attacker and goes full dribble to basket. Other player is defender and has to get in front of the man and defend.

drawing 5 out (part 1)
  • 2 numbers a few meters apart
    • x number of chesst pass
    • x number of bounce passes
    • x number of overhead pass
    • x number of bounce pass out
    • x number of baseball pass
  • Add if necessary
    • Defender
    • pass from the dribble

  • Players stand in a circle (max 5) and in the middle 1 pylon with a small circle around it.
  • One defender who is not allowed to enter the small circle and has to defend the pylon
  • The players around must play together to hit the pylon

2 teams, 1 ball.

  • Depending on the size of the teams a half field or quarter field.
  • Dribbling allowed, players must pass to avoid being tapped with ball.
  • Tapping the player with the ball is a point, out of bounds/ or run point for the other side, 30 seconds without being tapped is a point.

Divide group into pairs.
Passing to the other side:

  • At the halfway line: player on the inside dribbles to the head of the bucket and passes to the player on the outside who scores with a layup/ shot (variation)
  • Player who has passed runs to the other sideline and receives outlet, passes back to the center line and again shot/layup
  • Important that they do not run during the pass and that the players change (inside and outside)

Wave for U12:

  • Three teams, 1 ball: pass and cross behind the player.
  • Do this slowly at first, U12 kids find this a difficult exercise. Focus on passing and running. Start together (half field lengthwise) and build up when it goes well.
  • Depending on the size of the group, divide the field.

Variant for when it goes well:

  • Finish with score and play 2x1 (the one who scores will defend),
  • Pay attention to outlet pass (ask for the ball on the sideline).

Divide the group into pairs.

Passing to the other side:

  • First 2-groups fit around the whole field.
  • 3 meter distance, no running
  • Variant: at the halfway line:
    • Player on the inside dribbles to the head of the bucket and passes to the player on the outside who scores with lay-up/shot.
  • Player who has passed runs to the other sideline and receives outlet, passes back to the center line and again shot/layup
  • Left and right side

Important that they do not run during the pass and that the players change (inside and outside).

  • Make 2 rows with 1 ball.
  • Player gives bounce/chest pass to other row and runs after the ball, and closes behind.
  • Extend:
    • Place a pylon around which the players have to walk (or 2 pylons).
    • Possibly instead of passing dribble with the ball (left and right)
