Basketball drills for technique rebounding

  • Player A shoots from 10 different positions, with Player B rebounding and passing tight passes to Player A.
  • 10x shots are made from each position.
  • Both players take their turn.
  • You have about 20 minutes to have both shot, if this is not the case there is a suicide.
  • The goal of this exercise is to focus purely on your form.
At the end of the exercise you are asked which of the two has scored the most.
The losing player runs a suicide, should the score be forgotten, both players run a suicide.
drawing Form exercise
  • 1 or 2 rows just below the board on either side of the basket.
  • Make sure there are at least 4 players per row.
  • Ball is thrown against the board next to the basket and "tipped" into the tide by the next player (catch it two hands and throw it back to the board immediately).
  • The third player catches this ball again, etcetera.
  • After the action, a player closes behind the (other) row.
  • The exercise is finished when a minimum number of successful tips in a row have been achieved (without the ball touching the ground).
  • Variation:
    • Players must pass behind the coach before they may rejoin the (other) row.
    • The coach walks backwards slowly, which means they have to run harder. (This is a must with rows of 6 or more players).
    • The ball must be both caught and thrown again during 1 jump. (is quite difficult for smaller or weaker players)
    • Advice:
      • This can also involve deducting 1 point in the event of a failed tip instead of starting again at zero.

  • Parties with different assignments/restrictions.
  • Please note:
    • Walk freely.
    • Do not dribble blindly.
    • Pass well.
    • Pivot.
    • Talking.
  • 3x3 without dribbling. (1 basket)
  • First 10 passes.
  • Both teams on the back line. (on stomach)
  • Trainer puts ball in play via shot or bounce. (Quick positioning, who will attack?).
  • Just play to the 10 (end game).

  • 3 or 4 defenders rotate in the paint.
    • Closeout as they come from low to high.
  • 3-4 attackers stand on 3-line.
  • Coach passes from baseline to attacker.
    • Attacker shoots directly.
  • Attack rebounds then defense runs.
Basic drill Spin and swim drill

In this exercise, the basics of rebounding are explained and practiced (again).

Low center of gravity

  • Pairs of equal strength, without the ball.
  • Each pair backs against each other.
  • Start on the baseline, player on the baseline (attacker) tries to push the player with his back towards him (defender) to the opposite side.
  • Defender must have his back straight and his knees deep, so that the centre of gravity is low.
  • Once on the other side, the players swap roles and go the other way.

Explanation of basic movements

  • Watch where the attacker is going.
  • Make contact with hand/arm.
  • Pivot so your back is turned to your opponent.
  • Box out!

Exercise

  • Same pair on the baseline, about a metre apart.
  • Trainer calls out left or right.
  • Attackers then calmly take a few steps towards defender.
  • Defender carries out steps.
  • NOTE: attacker must step slowly for the exercise!
  • After a few rolls, attacker/defender turn around.

Game shape

  • Same pair, around the centre circle. (Defender on the circle line, 1 ball in the middle.)
  • When the trainer says GO, the attackers try to get the ball, the defenders have to box out!
  • After a few rolls attacker/defender turn around.
  • Rows of 5-6 men, 2 per basket, 1 ball per row.
  • Throw ball against the board, next player catches and throws again immediately against the board.
  • U12-2 must catch ball in the air.

2 rows, 1 ball per team

  • Player scores, rebounds own ball, and passes to next player in line
  • Player who scored runs to the other baseline to retrieve a pawn and brings it back to the group. Can also be done with the volleyball scoreboard (keeping track of points, best of 5)
  • Group with most pawns at the end wins

Games with different assignments/restrictions.
Pay attention to free running, not blind dribbling, good passing, pivoting, talking.

  • 3x3 without dribbling (1 basket)
  • with max 2 dribbles
  • Both teams lie on the back line (on stomach),
  • trainer puts ball in play via shot or bounce (quickly choose position, who will attack?)
  • just play to the 10 (end game)

  • Ball up pass to bed.
  • the down man runs in and passes to the middle man.
  • The middle man passes to the first passer
  • who runs in for a lay up.
  • Basket 1: 4-6 players
  • Passer.
    • Post up in the bucket with defender.
  • Offense stays offense until offense gets 5 baskets.
  • One try per post-up.
    • If miss, pass ball to the passer. Till 5.
  • Than other team.
    • Then switch defender/offender.
  • Each player twice in offense and twice in defense.
  • Goal:
    • Post up the pivot.
    • Feed the pivot. 2 on 2.
  • Use all means, backscreen, pick-and-roll. Boxing-out.
  • (Needed for 3out-2 in system)
  • 1 ball per side. (2 shots allowed when rebounded)
  • Score, offense stays offense.
