Volleyball drills

  • You have 2 teams one is on one side of the field and the other on the other side.
  • There is a ball played in the field the ball may fall on the ground 0/1 time the ball is passed by the teams to the other side of the field.
  • If the ball either bounces 1/2 time, goes out or wrong technique a team has a point.

Some variations on the well known butterfly...:

  • Service-pass-catch on SU-position, running after the ball.
  • As everyone is chasing his/her ball, each player has a different task, but if desired, a player can have a fixed position.
  • Variation 1:
    • The SU plays a set-up to position 4, where an attacker stands to play a (placed) attack on the receiver.
    • The rotation then becomes: Service -passer -upper - attacker - off-side - service etc.
  • Variation 2:
    • the fixed SU plays a ball to a receiver 'somewhere' in the field, who makes himself known by calling 'here'.
    • The SU learns to react on sound, the receiver learns to communicate his position.
  • Variation 3:
    • The fixed SU plays the pass backwards to position 2, where the receiver, after an attacking movement, catches the ball and starts serving.
    • In the diagram is variation 1

butterfly-variation

  • In the middle of the field a large square is made with 4 benches. Here 2 players stand.
  • All balls are distributed in the hall and the other players are waiting for the trainer.
  • When the trainer says start, the players must try to get as many balls as possible into the square.
  • The 2 players who are in the square throw the balls back out again.
  • After 1 minute the trainer checks how many balls are still in the square.
  • ATTENTION:
    • You may only throw 1 ball at a time in or out of the square!

Servicepass training for 4 to 12 persons4
persons:
2 servers at the servicepoint.
1 passer1
receiver
(dynamic) same as static but dancer plays ball on receiver. Passer plays to off-setter. (server becomes reserve, reserve becomes passer, passer becomes receiver etc.)

6 persons.
2 servers3
passers1
receiver
(static) see four persons
(dynamic) server serves the ball and runs after his/her ball.
Passer passes the ball to the receiver. The player on the right becomes the server and the server
moves in on the left. Catcher becomes server. If this does not work out 1 passer becomes reserve.

Extend with fixed sv and extra player on pos 4, who will attack. Passer becomes attacker, when pass is wrong the passer goes away.

Extend with blocking.

service-pass-exercise-1

Aim: Players Setup from 1st time + targeted attack.

  • T plays ball high over the net in the attack zone.
  • Sv enters from pos.1 and sets up for -or backwards.
  • A attacks on the mat/goal.

Expand : Block, middle attack, ...

drawing playmaker setup from 1st time attack

Stand opposite each other in pairs:

  • 1 person has 2 tennis balls, the other 2 volleyballs.
  • The person with the volleyballs throws one ball high to the other person, to 1 of his 2 hands.
  •  That person has to throw the tennis ball in that hand low back to the other person
  • Always the same person who performs the first action

Stand opposite to each other in pairs:

  • 1 person has a tennis ball, the other a volleyball
  • Volleyball is replayed in 2 contact, high or low
  • The tennis ball is then replayed in 1 contact, low if the volleyball comes high, high if the volleyball comes low

Per 2 opposite each other:

  • Variation on previous exercise
  • If the volleyball is played high, it must be replayed directly in 1 contact (tennis ball is played low at the same time).
  •  If the volleyball is played low, it will be replayed in 2 contacts

Per 2 opposite each other:

  • Play ball as long as possible towards each other with only the arms.

  • There are 2 lines with persons on the end line and 2 attackers on the 3m line at both sides.
  • The player right back walks to the middle of the field and gets a ball thrown by the player left back.
  • The player gives a set up to the attacker on the 3m line.
  • This attacker tries to attack the ball over the net to the best of his abilities.
  • This exercise stimulates a not-perfect set up given from the back field.
  • The goal is that the attacker is still able to play the ball over the net with some pressure.

attack-with-set-up-from-the-back-field

  • The players are in a line at position 1.
  • The first makes a jump service (without ball), then runs diagonally to the net (position 4).
  • Here, he/she makes a block, shuffles backwards to the 3m line, and attacks.
  • Then, he/she shuffles to the middle and does the same.
  • Keeps shuffling to the right and does the same here.
  • Makes a dive to position 1.
  • Per 2 players, 1 ball
  • Player A has a ball.
  • Player B is at 4 meters from player A
  • Player A throws the ball to player B
  • Action during: Player A calls left or right
  • Player B is catching the ball with the hand player A is calling.
  • Idem for player B.
    • Variation: 2 or 3 balls, tennis ball, reaction ball.

These exercises are done in pairs

  • Exercise 1:
    • Person 1 is at the net with a ball,
    • person 2 starts at the 3-meter line.
    • Person 1 hits the ball and person has to run back and play the ball back to person 1.
    • 10x per person.
  • Exercise 2:
    • Person 1 is on the 3-meter line with a ball.
    • Person 2 is going to block at the net, and then turn around to play the short ball by person 1.
    • 10x per person.

cones-of-the-bench

  • Player A throws the ball over the net.
  • Player B or C passes the ball over the net.
  • The other player quickly runs underneath the net, and sets up for the same player that passed.
  • This player tries to hit a cone from the bench with overarm player or a hitting movement.

Which pair or which team has hit the most cones from the bench after an X number of minutes?

Hit to outside and middle

Daarna

Beside the playmaker, the other players execute a pass, an attack, and a service.

ball-control

The exercise is as follows:

  • 1 Player 1 throws a tight ball to player 7
  • 2a player 7 passes the ball to the playmaker
  • 2b player 1 walks to the other line and joins the back.
  • 3 the playmaker gives a set up to player 6
  • 4 player 6 smashes the ball to the mat
  • 5 player 6 picks up his own ball
  • 6 player 6 serves the ball to the other mat
  • 7 player 6 picks up his own ball
  • 8 player 6 joins the line
  • This can also be done a middle attack

After 10 minutes, a block is added
