General game situation: passing point in front and behind the setter

Explanation

  • The ball is served by the server, who then enters the court to defend.
  • Player 2 or 3 passes the ball to player 1 (setter), who moves from the backcourt to the net.
  • The setter provides a set-up to position 2/4 or to the player in position 3.
  • The two blockers and the server defend the ball, and the rally is played out.

Execution

  • Balls over the net can be played from a standing position or a jump.
  • Balls can be played overhead, tipped with one hand, or hit.

Variations

  • If the serve is too difficult, the ball can be thrown in instead of served.
  • If the serve is too difficult, the second ball can be caught, tossed up for oneself, and then played on.
