Hockey drills
Warm up exercise in relay form
- Divide the players into groups of 2 or 3 players and place them on the left side of the field.
- Give each player a tennis ball.
- At the start sign, the 1st player of each group starts running to the other, right, side with a ball.
- Once there, they put the ball outside the line and run back as fast as they can so that player 2 of their group can start running with his/her ball.
- When all the balls are on the right side and the last player has returned to his/her group, it is over.
- The first one back to his/her group wins.
Goal of the exercise is:
- Passing at speed.
- Pass to next position.
- Defender delivers the ball.
- Attacker enters the circle via the outside.
- Defender gives pressure as attacker enters the circle.
- Play out 3 versus 2.
- Player 1 plays to A.
- A accepts and drives around pylons and finishes on goal.
- A positions immediately after shot on goal for 2nd ball.
Almost simultaneously plays:
- Player 2 to B.
- Player B drives ball around circle and plays to player B.
Attention:
- Timing. when does player 2 start.
- After shot immediate switching and positioning.
- Player A must be played into the run/movement.
- 1 and 2 pass the ball up and down 3 times.
- The one who gets the ball last plays someone of his color in the circle and may help build an attack in the circle.
Expansion:
- They may move out of the circle and also 2 meters outside the circle.
- Once the ball is cleared by the defending side, the attack is over.
- Defending outside.
Simultaneously to this exercise 3 players can practice the penalty corner.

Exercises:
- Dribbling
- Ground touch
- Heels buttocks
- Lift the knee
- Connecting pass sideways
- Cross pass
- A pushes or B
- B passes alternately to C or D.

Conditioning in combination with stick and Ball
- A: sprint from 1 to 2
- B: perform rope ladder as per 5 exercises below
- C: take ball around the hat and finish on goal

Exercise:
- Player Blue stands between the four pawns and plays player Red firmly -hard push.
- Player Blue keeps eye contact with player Red and chooses position left or right between the pawns.
- Player Red plays the ball firmly back to Blue's chosen position -attack position.
- Player Blue accepts open and then finishes on goal.
Important:
- Players Blue and Red stand with straight backs and bent legs on the ball of the foot. In the 'starting blocks'.
- Stick just slightly above the knees.
Construction:
- Player Blue takes open first at both attack positions on the forehand, then on the backhand, then alternately.
Level:
- For 1st year D players, it is recommended that the trainer take the role of player Red in the beginning.
- As confidence grows, and effectiveness, players can assume the role of Red.
- Make 2 equal teams.
- Each team gets an attacking goal.
- Rights to score can be fetched in 1 of the 2 boxes.
- On offense or ball loss, rights must be retrieved again.
- Focused pass giving and receiving.
- Center player focus on accepting, handling ball and passing on.

- Speed ball -width of field serve.
Extension exercise: middle player runs in and asks for the ball, accepts and turns around, passes the ball runs back quickly and offers again.
