Tennis drills

  • Put a ball carrier/cart in the middle of a half court.
  • Each player tries to hit the balls into the ball cart with a backhand.
  • Bulls eye if successful.

The children spread out across the tennis court.
  • When the trainer says start the children begin walking/running/etc. through the court.
  • When the trainer says a "stop" word, the children look for a hat as quickly as possible.
  • While the children are running around, the trainer can also call another variation of movement such as hopping, stepping sideways, etc.
  • At each round, remove a hat so that someone goes off.
  • The one who is off does 5 jumping jacks and then join in again.
  • A backhand is indicated.
  • Player takes turns playing in one zone and then another.

  • Have the players pass to each other where they stand.
  • After a number of times, change where they are standing.

Put the players in a row next to each other.
About 1 meter in front of them on the ground is a tennis ball.

  • Have them put their feet slightly apart.
  • Quickly run -dribble- in place.
At the trainer's instruction they do while dribbling:
  • Hands on knees.
  • Hands on toes.
  • Hands on shoulders.
  • Hands forward.
  • Hands in the air.
  • When the trainer calls Ball!, they grab the ball as fast as they can.

  • Repeat and throw the commands interchangeably for variety.

  • There are 4 balls randomly indicated on each side of the court is a pot.
  • If a Forehand is played then the Forehand pot must be tapped.
  • If a Backhand is played then the Backhand pot must be tapped.

Setup:
  • In pairs, place the players in a row facing the wall.
  • Per pair 1 tennis ball.
Exercise:
  • Player 1 stands closest to the wall and begins the exercise by throwing the ball against the wall.
  • Player 2 catches the ball.
  • Player 1 meanwhile runs back through the right side and then catches the ball that player 2 just threw against the wall.
  • Repeat at least 20 times.
  • Make the exercise more difficult by having the ball caught in a hat.

Preparation:
  • Half Field.
  • Place hats on the back line with a tennis ball on top.
  • Place equal number of hats at the net.
Exercise:
  • Have the players run with the tennis ball to the overlying hat.
  • Have them put the ball down on the hat there for 2 seconds.
  • Pick it up again and run back to the starting hat.

Sprint around the pawns, always via the middle pawn.

there is 1 ticker and the rest have to try to grab the stretcher and eventually the tennis ball along 2 sides of the square if the ticker ticks you you have to put the stretcher back and try again
- you can also make it increasingly difficult or easier
e.g.: the one who is tapped out of game or make bigger square
1) the player jumps over the fence and then jumps from where she stands with 1 leg into the hoop and back for the next fence
so on until the end
2) you jump sideways over the fence and then jump with 1 leg into the 2 hoops, are you at the outer hoop you jump over the hoop back next to the fence.
3) you jump over one fence sideways and back with 1 big step you jump to the other fence and jump back over it and back and then sprint to the little pawn.

  • Distribute the players across the field.
  • Have them stand with their feet apart and knees slightly bent.
  • Their arms extend in front of them at shoulder height holding a tennis ball with two hands.
  • The players let the ball bounce on the ground and catch it again as it bounces. Repeat 10 times.
  • The players hold the ball in their right hand, drop the ball and in the bounce catch the ball with the left hand. Repeat this 10 x.
  • Next, all players get a hat with which they catch the bouncing ball. Repeat 10 x
