Volleyball drills for technique attack / smash / spike / hitting

attacking-from-the-middle-and-outside

  • Coach throws ball to defender
  • Defender passes to playmaker
  • sv gives set up to outside or middle
  • On both sides of the net an SV
  • Line up 2 rows to attack.
  • On one side of the net, the attack happens short-cut through the middle
  • On the other side, the SV does a backward setup and the right forward attacks.
  • Attacker retrieves ball and joins own line.


VARIANT: attacker retrieves ball and connects to the opposite side and performs middle attack.

  • 4 or 5 teams.
  • 2 at the net 1 ball,
  • rv set-up,
  • l.f. attacks,
  • on 2 or 3 defenders.

An exercise for the attacker. The attacker has to be available for a second attack after a block.

First the middle attackers. At the net stand the playmaker (S) and a head blocker (1) ready to block, next to them stands the trainer (T) or player with a ball. Three defenders (4, 5 and 6) are standing at the back of the field.

  • The trainer hits the ball, whereupon 1 and S block together.
  • During the block the trainer smashes the ball to 4, 5 or 6.
  • As soon as 1 is on the ground again after the block, 1 moves backwards for the attack run.
  • 4, 5 or 6 defend the ball.
  • S gives a setup to 1.
  • 1 smashes the ball
  • 1 retrieves the ball.
  • 2 takes the place of 1 (1,2 and 3 rotate)

Then the outside attackers who for a change will attack on the right. The playmaker (S) stands in the middle and the outfielder (1) stands on the right. Next to them again the trainer (T) and in the field the defenders (4, 5 and 6).

  • The trainer hits the ball, whereupon 1 and S block together.
  • During the block the trainer smashes the ball to 4, 5 or 6.
  • As soon as 1 is on the ground again after the block, 1 moves backwards for the attack run.
  • 4, 5 or 6 defend the ball.
  • S gives a setup backwards to 1.
  • 1 smashes the ball
  • 1 retrieves the ball.
  • 2 takes the place of 1 (1,2 and 3 rotate)

Making an attack run:

  • Right handed: left, right, left
  • Left handed: right, left, right
  • Player throws ball to trainer who is on the bench
  • trainer holds up the ball
  • players knock the ball out of the hand of the trainer
  • stay on your own side of the net

  • jump with your arms!
  • hit the ball with your belly!

Making an attack run:

  • Right handed: left, right, left
  • Left handed: right, left, right

Players on length together

  • on one side the net lower
  • player throws ball to trainer
  • trainer holds up the ball
  • players knock the ball out of the hand of the trainer
  • stay on own side of the net

  • jump with your arms!
  • hit the ball with your belly!

for right-hander:

  • player has the ball in the LH
  • bounce the ball with the LH
  • and hit the ball with the RH
  • continue like this
  • Practice attacking at the net with mats on the ground.
  • Every child has a tennisball in its hand and passes it in the air to the other hand.
  • Throw the ball over the net and down to the floor.
    • So go up with 2 hands
  • YOU JUMP WITH YOUR ARMS.
  • put 2 cabinets down
  • start as low as possible (1 layer)
  • cabinets one 'attack run' apart
  • possibly put down marking mats
  • They jump with 2 legs on the first box and land with both hands up.

Attacking. Trainer throws the ball to the playmaker (who comes in just like with the team line-up). Distributor gives set-up and attacker hits box who stands 4 meters behind the net.
