Handballexercises for technique defense
Execution
- Start from the centre line with a formation of 5 versus 4 or 5 versus 5.
- The trainer throws the ball to the attackers.
- The defenders may start immediately after the throw.
- The attackers attempt to score.
- The defenders try to gain possession of the ball.
Objective
- Practising attack and defence in match situations with high tempo.
- Focus points for attack: A lot of movement, do not stay in one place.
- Focus points for defence: Who steps out and when.
- Defence is outnumbered and tries to break the attack by slowing down the pace.
- Defence is fully positioned with a pivot behind them.
- Focus points: Who has the pivot and when do they step out.
- Same as 4-against-4, but now first the left wing player (LW) and then the right wing player (RW) are involved.
Formation
- Five players stand on the 6-metre line and hold each other's hands.
- One attacker tries to dribble past the defenders and finish.
- The defenders must work together and move in unison to stop the attacker.
- There are two stations where the attacker changes each time.
Execution
- Blue attempts to dribble towards the goal.
- Red tries to prevent this by tapping the ball away.
- Blue moves slowly.
- Blue moves quickly.
- Blue moves at top speed.
Execution
- The player starts in the corner with sliding movements.
- At each cone, the player steps out.
- After stepping out, the player immediately retreats and continues sliding.
- The player slides to the cone in the corner and initiates a fast break.
Description
- This game can be played as a final game, during training, or as a warm-up. It is appealing because it can be easily differentiated and changed.
Execution
- Two teams are formed in an area of approximately 10 by 10 metres. One team starts with the ball and tries to pass it 10 times to a teammate.
- The other team tries to intercept the ball and then also pass it 10 times.
Variations
- Make the field larger or smaller.
- Use a different way of passing, such as mandatory bouncing or through the air.
Execution
- Play an internal match.
- If necessary, pause the game.
- Have players observe positions: who is where and what choice do you make to pass the ball?
Build-up
- Two backcourt players pass the ball calmly to each other.
- With each pass, forward threat is created.
- The defender maintains a correct defensive posture.
- Stepping out and inserting: slide sideways or move sideways.
- Variation: The trainer gives a visual signal, after which the attacker plays one-on-one and finishes on goal.
Formation
- Divide the team into two corners. A pair starts with defending.
- The first pair passes the ball to the goalkeeper and runs a half fast break.
- The pair receives the ball from the goalkeeper just before the halfway line.
- Play out the two-against-two.
- After completion, the next pair starts from the corner and runs a half fast break.
- Simultaneously, the attackers from just now run to the halfway line and become defenders.
- The goalkeeper retrieves the ball as quickly as possible and passes it to the new attackers.
Introduction
- Exercises with mats in pairs of 2, using 1 ball.
- The player with the ball tries to touch the mat with their foot. The other player tries to prevent this with their body. The defender keeps their hands on their back. Each pair plays for 2 times 1 minute, then switch roles.
- Both players sit on their knees on the mat. Try to push each other off the mat. If someone is pushed off the mat, start again.
- Both players on their knees on the mat. One player holds the ball, the other player tries to snatch the ball away.
- The ball lies on the mat. Both players place their hands on the edge of the mat and roll the ball to each other.
- Same as before, but after contact with the ball, stand further away, so that you have walked completely around the mat.
- The ball is placed between the heads of the players. Move around the entire mat on your hands.
Setup
- All balls are placed at the centre line.
- Form pairs and have them stand in one of the two corners.
- The trainer bounces a ball.
- The players move towards the goalpost and then sprint towards the trainer.
- The trainer can roll the ball away, bounce it, or hold it to see who retrieves the ball first.
- If one player remains, have them intercept the balls and pass them back each time.
Execution
- Pass from Backcourt Player 2 to Backcourt Player 6, then back to Backcourt Player 2.
- Pass to Backcourt Player 1 and then back to Backcourt Player 2.
- Backcourt Player 2 shoots at goal.
- Defender 1 tries to block the shot.
- Repeat the exercise on the other side.
