Handballexercises for technique attack / offense
Build-up
- Two backcourt players pass the ball calmly to each other.
- With each pass, forward threat is created.
- The defender maintains a correct defensive posture.
- Stepping out and inserting: slide sideways or move sideways.
- Variation: The trainer gives a visual signal, after which the attacker plays one-on-one and finishes on goal.
Execution
- Advance the ball with a team of three players: left backcourt, centre backcourt, and right backcourt.
- The objective is to score on the goal at the opposite end of the court.
- Perform the exercise without bouncing the ball.
- Add substitutions and systems during the game.
- Include one or more defenders for extra challenge.
Formation
- Divide the team into two corners. A pair starts with defending.
- The first pair passes the ball to the goalkeeper and runs a half fast break.
- The pair receives the ball from the goalkeeper just before the halfway line.
- Play out the two-against-two.
- After completion, the next pair starts from the corner and runs a half fast break.
- Simultaneously, the attackers from just now run to the halfway line and become defenders.
- The goalkeeper retrieves the ball as quickly as possible and passes it to the new attackers.
Execution
- Green passes to player 2, then to player 1, and back to player 2.
- Player 2 shoots at the goal.
- At the hands
- Top corner left/right
- Shoulder height left/right
- Knee height left/right
- Bouncing balls left/right
- Low balls left/right
Execution
- In pairs, bring the ball to the other side and score.
- The red team brings the ball to the other side and attempts to score.
- Pairs start from the back line.
- At the moment the red team attempts a goal, the green team may start to score a breakout on the other side.
- The red team then defends back.
- Once the green team has attempted a goal, they must return to defend against the other two red players.
- These red players start at the moment the green team attempts a goal.
- The exercise can continue in a flow form, as players keep returning to their own side.
- Without bouncing.
- You do not start with the ball yourself, but throw the ball to the goalkeeper who must initiate the breakout.
- The goalkeeper must first try to stop the ball and then immediately throw a breakout.
Setup
- All balls are placed at the centre line.
- Form pairs and have them stand in one of the two corners.
- The trainer bounces a ball.
- The players move towards the goalpost and then sprint towards the trainer.
- The trainer can roll the ball away, bounce it, or hold it to see who retrieves the ball first.
- If one player remains, have them intercept the balls and pass them back each time.
Execution
- Pass from Backcourt Player 2 to Backcourt Player 6, then back to Backcourt Player 2.
- Pass to Backcourt Player 1 and then back to Backcourt Player 2.
- Backcourt Player 2 shoots at goal.
- Defender 1 tries to block the shot.
- Repeat the exercise on the other side.
Execution
- Pass from Back 1 to Back 2.
- Pass from Back 2 to Back 3.
- Pass back from Back 3 to Back 2.
- Pass from Back 2 back to Back 1.
- Pass from Back 1 to Back 4.
- Back 4 shoots on goal.
- Back 1 can choose between a throw or pass to Back 4.
- Pass to Right Wing Player (Right 2).
Setup
- Start in pairs from your own 6-meter area.
- Bring the ball to the other half of the field.
- On your own half, there is one defender who stays only on this half.
- On the other half, there are two defenders.
- On the other half, there is also a pivot available for the attack.
- Without bouncing.
- Without a pivot.
- Three defenders on one half, where the front defender joins the other two.
Execution
- Run around the cones.
- Always pass the ball in front of the cone.
- After the last cone, join the end of the line.
This is a coordinated minus tempo attack to create a lot of space on the wings and shoot freely.
- The back players rotate the ball wing to wing to displace the defenders.
- When the play gets called "Minus tempo Left/Right" this means it will be the left or the right winger to shoot.
- If the call is Minus tempo right, then it will be the right winger to shoot, as in the example below.
- The first step is the pivot places themselves on the 3 defender, near the left back, displacing the central defenders slightly to their right already.
- The right winger then goes deep to near the corner flag to open up as much as possible.
- The left back passes to the left wing, who passes back to the left back, passing to the centre, to the right back, to the centre back again, back to left back, and back to left wing. All these passes will create space by themselves.
- Once the ball leaves the left wing again, the left back makes a run to goal with the ball attacking between 2 and 3, the centre back does the same attacking around the other 3, and the right back as well attacking between 2 and 1, closer to 2.
- These runs have to be coordinated to displace all defenders. This will make it so the defenders 1 and 2 on the right side will close on the right back, and the wing will be free.
- The left back then jumps and passes across the court to the free winger who has started running and has enough momentum and angle to score.
- If the defenders don't move then there's several other finishing options. If the second 3 defender doesn't close the pivot, the pivot will be free.
- If the second 3 closes the pivot, but the 2 defender doesn't close on the centre back run, then the centre can score. If the 2 defender closes but the 1 defender doesn't close, then the right back scores.
This is a resistance and mental strength exercise.
- Each player goes to their position. They will have to take 3 - 5 shots in a row, running back to the position as soon as they shoot. For every two shots, they will have to change the third shot.
- The objective, more than building resistance, is to build mental strength to make the body go forward when we're tired.
- This will be repeated several times.
- The first couple of times the players won't be tired, but after the third or fourth repetition of the series of shots in a row, then they will.
- There can also be one player (pivot for example) blocking shots (not 100% defense, just 30%)
- If the overall team scores more than 50% than the keeper does 20 push ups, 20 sit ups, and 20 squats.
- If the team scores less than, then the team does it.
