Handball drills for technique attack / offense

  • RO plays pass to in starting MO, RO starts to middle in, presses UL

  • 2 players facing each other, with tennis ball.
  • Hold upper arm and overplay ball with forearm/wrist.
  • Pass over with hip throw.
  • Trainer stands center front at 7 meters.
  • Player throws on ball from 11/ 12 meters, runs up, catches ball and shoots under arms trainer, with side shot.
  • Note low body position.
  • 1 player per corner without ball as a focal point
  • 1 circle player without ball as a focal point
  • Distribute the rest of the players with ball over the construction positions

  • Ball owner plays in motion to point of play, runs on, gets the ball back and shoots from outside the 9 meters at goal
  • Initially shoot from a run or long shot, then with a jump shot
  • For rounding, pylons can be placed in the corners of the goal
  • For aiming high, the goal can be imaginary divided into 4 areas, with aiming in the top 2 areas

  • Give lots of shots and then 1 on 1 tips for improvement
  • The goal is to try a lot

  • Set up 2 posts in the middle 2 meters apart at the level of the goalie posts
  • Start at the left post, sprint to the right post, sprint back to the left post and in the run get the ball.
  • Short turn up jump and finish
Variation:
  • Same exercise but move the posts to the build-up. You sprint to the right post again, catch the ball with your left hand, sprint back to the post and receive the ball in your right hand and finish.

  • Group split into the left corners next to the 2 goals.
  • All players have a ball.
  • The front player in the line gets to roll the ball away and chooses position on the 9 meter and starts to function as the point of play.
  • The then front player of the line plays the point of play, makes pace towards the center line, gets the ball back just before the center line.
  • Catches the ball with 2 hands, makes 3 passes and then starts to tip.

  • Except for the circle, occupy all offensive positions.
  • The ball starts with the middle builder.
  • The middle builder starts in toward goal and plays off to one of the players next to him/her.
  • The player next to him/her is already moving toward the goal while catching the ball.
  • The player stays in the forward motion and then plays through to the corner player next to him/her.
  • The ball again passes through the builder back to the center.
  • Then the ball goes to the other corner.

  • The ball starts with the middle builder.
  • The center builder starts toward goal and plays off to a player next to her.
  • The player next to her is already moving toward the goal and catches the ball while keeping moving.
  • The player then passes to the corner player next to her.
  • The ball goes through the builder back to the middle and then to the other corner.

  • Corners cut after pass.
  • Circle comes out, gets ball and goes back.
  • Move to goal without ball!

Ball moves from left to right and back again as the group moves on 1 line to the other side of the field.

Additional extension of this exercise:
  • Trainer names a player.
  • Player calls left or right player by name and switches positions. Fellow player crosses behind.
  • Both with and without ball.
The players learn in this way to coach each other, to see each other and not only to pay attention to the ball. Can be used as warming up as well as coaching training.

  • 1 defender
  • 1 row of attackers

  • 1 attacker receives the ball from the trainer/handler on the way to the defender
  • The defender fends off and the attacker passes to the trainer
  • The attacker breaks free, receives the ball again and tries to finish
  • Pass giving from LO-M / RO-MO
  • Pass giving in the run from LO to MO
  • MO runs in without ball, feints back and gives pass to LO.
  • LO feints towards the middle and throws on goal.
This exercise can also be done with 3 players.
  • MO then runs in without ball and passes ball to L/RO.
  • This exercise always in motion for the MO, run half circle, run backwards.
