Volleyballexercises for technique defense / passing / digging / diving / reception
Setup
- Divide the group into two. One player stands with a few balls at the pole.
- One setter stands at the net to distribute the ball.
- Each defender has a ball, except one. So if there are four defenders on the court, three have a ball.
- The player at the pole sets the ball to the setter.
- The setter plays the ball (initially easy) to a random defender with a ball.
- This defender first throws their ball to another defender without a ball and then passes to the setter.
- The setter immediately plays another ball to a different defender with a ball.
- Regularly switch players and positions.
Execution
- Player 4 delivers a set-up to player 1.
- Player 1 attacks player 2.
- Player 2 defends towards player 3.
- Player 3 delivers a set-up to player 2.
- Player 2 attacks player 1.
- Player 1 defends towards player 4.
- The process repeats.
- After players 3 and 4 have each delivered 5 set-ups, the players switch positions.
- The challenge is to switch while keeping the ball in play.
Organisation
- Form trios. The first trio lies on their stomachs behind the 7-metre line. The trainer stands with a ball cart on the other side of the net.
- The trainer claps on the ball and plays it directly over the net. Players must quickly stand up and return the ball over the net in a maximum of three contacts. The trainer can determine the level of difficulty.
Execution
- Divide the group into pairs. One person from each pair starts at the net, the other on the baseline.
- The players on the baseline have a ball, possibly with a reserve ball.
- The players at the net perform a block jump.
- After the block jump, they immediately turn around and defend a ball from the baseline player.
- The ball can be tapped, hit, or played in a fast manner.
- Note: turn around immediately after the block and assess the situation. Do not step in too quickly due to a potentially hit ball.
- Let the players at the net defend 10 balls, then switch roles.
Execution

- They alternate playing the ball short and long.
- Defenders move from right to left.

- The trainer stands at the net.
- The players must play the ball to the trainer.
- Use different techniques: overhead, underhand, short, deep to the back.
- Vary in power: hard balls and soft balls.
- The ball may be played in two touches.
Setup
- 2 teams of 6, 8, 10, or 12 players.
- 1 player on the court, the rest stand behind the end line in the waiting area.
- The trainer introduces the ball into play to court A or B.
- Players may only play the ball underhand.

- The defenders defend individually and place the ball in the basket.
