Throw-In from Baseline - After Opponent's Score
  • Positions: Thrower, ball handler, wing player, corner player (spots).
  • Try to pass quickly and avoid too much dribbling.
Throw-In from Sideline
  • Positions: Thrower, ball handler, wing player, corner player (spots).
Throw-In from Baseline - Offensive Half
  • The thrower never stands under the basket.
  • The other three players stand on the designated line.
  • The thrower calls "GO".
  • The middle player runs towards the basket.
  • If the ball cannot be received, make space again.
  • The player on the same side as the thrower runs to the corner.
  • The player on the opposite side of the thrower runs along the corner towards the basket.
  • Playing from 5 spots
  • After each ball is taken, an action is made to the basket.
  • This can be done in a drive or with a shot.
  • When the attacker is stopped by a defender, he passes the ball to the outside and cuts to the basket, via the baseline he mans a free spot in the corner.
  • When a drive is initiated, the defense can either go into help defense, which always leaves someone free at the 3-point line.
  • When the defense does not go into help defense, the attackers must run free in order to be able to receive the ball when the driver gets stuck.
  • Important is the speed between receiving the ball and the drive.
  • When the defense presses too high a cut to the basket can also be made to get free from his defender.
drawing backdoor
  • Player stands on the wing position with a ball, in front of her there is a defender.
  • An attacker and a defender are at the guard position.
  • The attacker cuts in to the 6-spot and back up, the defender defends along with her.
  • Once back up, the defender stands and the attacker cuts inside again and gets the ball with a good pass from the winger.
  • He then finishes 1 to 0.
  • Make it more difficult or easier by adjusting defenses or using more players.
  • Important - warm up means - build intensity - be in motion.

3 sets up double screen with 5 (or 4).
1 can cut along here on 2 sides. 3 rolls off to the outside. (Can also get the ball from 4), 5 rolls off to 1 side. Depending on choice of side screen by 1.
2 moves to baseline and comes back to spot for possible shot.

4 or 5, steps into the field. 1 now has shot/lay-up or 3 pass possibilities. 3 provides defensive balance.

  • 1 then executes a UCLA cut on 5's screen.
  • 3 looks for the pass to 1 if not going 1 runs inside and flares out to weak side.
  • 4 and 5 then place a staggered screen in front of 2 who looks inside curl ten before receiving the pass for the open lay up.

Creative “numbers†drill

  • Attacker O1 starts the drill by initiating dribble penetration;
  • Then all the other players in line move;
  • Attackers try to score, defenders try to stop ball;
  • If successful, 4-on-0 break on other basket;
  • Scoring system and possibly time-limit to your own interpretation;
  • Players may run free at their own discretion;

Teaching point: An open driving lane is a more or less perpendicular path to the basket or to a help defender in the bucket.

Help defense is out of position = 1-to-1

This rule does apply after five passes. So again: We play 1-on-1 only after five passes!
