Bench exercises
In 2 groups opposite each other:
- Hold up 3 balls and only 1 ball at a time in your hand.
- Hold up 4 balls and you are only allowed to hold up 1 ball at a time.
- In total 3 balls, where 1 ball is thrown in between and both have 1 ‘own’ ball. Before you catch the thrown ball, you throw your 'own' ball up, catch the thrown ball, throw it back and catch your 'own' ball. And so on.
- Play 1 ball overhead, 1 ball bounce on the ground.
- Play 1 ball overhand, 1 ball over ground.
- Play 1 ball overhand, 1 ball roll with arms stretched over ground.
This exercise assumes that the players know where they must stand and which zone is for them. So explain this well in advance
- Players stand in the correct zone
- Trainer serves/ throws the ball
- After every service, turn around.
- Serve only when they think they are in the right position
- Also serve if they are not positioned correctly and serve on the uncovered position.
- They have to correct each other where they should stand.
- Throw a ball into a difficult zone every now and then. Who was this ball for?
- It's about recognizing your own zone. Who takes which ball? Call loose when in doubt etc
- Make clear agreements in advance!
2 teams with a net in between and 1 ball. Use oh catching and throwing motion to play to each other. Catch the ball with your hands on the side and do not press the ball against your body! If you throw, make sure they step out and throw the ball along the body over the net.
4 teams and then idem above. When the ball is over the net you change places. Check first if this goes naturally. If not, explain that one goes in front and the other behind and that you always look at the opponent! We take 1 field of level 3. It is 2 against 2 and the one who is finished leaves the field and then the reserve team may enter. Who will stand the longest?
Player 1 is lying on the ground on the back line. Player 2 is standing at the net with a ball and hits the ball as a sign that he is going to throw. Then player 1 quickly stands up and catches the ball. 5x and then change
2 baskets in the middle of the net. Trainer stands on the other side of the net and throws the ball to over the net. Player catches the ball and throws the ball DIRECTLY into the basket via oh or via bra throwing motion. The intention is that they do not think but action reaction!
Core 1 Serve with emphasis on flat hand, stretched arm and that they stand slightly bent over.
In groups of 2 near the wall with 1 ball. On about 2 meters distance. Player 1 serves and player 2 catches then player 2 serves and player 1 catches.
Split the group in 2 for the next exercises
Field 1) diagonally there are sticky bags in the field. The players start with the bag closest to the net. Serve 2 times well and then you may go to the next one. If you have lost everything you get 1 point and you start all over again. Get the ball yourself
Field 2) field full of hoops and 3 rows of servers. You serve in the hoop then that hoop is for you. Who has the most hoops? Get the ball yourself.
2 x 2 teams with 1 ball and net in between. You throw the ball via bra throwing motion over the net and then tap the center line and you join the back of the row. Player 2 catches the ball and throws it via bra throwing motion over the net again and taps the middle line etc etc.
2 corrals on midfield, 1 on each side of the net. Trainer throws ball over the net and player taps or catches ball directly. Afterwards throw the ball into the basket = 3 points or against the basket = 1 point. Bring ball to trainer and rejoin the line.
- You lay down 1 mat less than the number of players.
- You stand on the mat and try to throw the ball on the other mat.
- If you succeed, that person is out and the other player can stand on the mat.
- However, if you have hit a mat you must also change mats.
- Doesn't matter which one.
- So there is always 1 substitute but you are still in motion.
- You are not finished if you catch the ball!
- Then you can remain standing.
- If you defend the ball with one hand, you are also out and you have to change back to a reserve player.
Divide children in pairs; 1 counter and 1 performing the exercise
- 4 hoops are in a square. The distance between the hoops is 5 meters. In every hoop is a ball. The player starts in a corner with a ball.
- Change as many balls as possible, in which the ball has to be put in the hoop. The player has to look the same direction the entire time.
- Every player has 1 turn.
- Count the number of ball changes in 45 seconds.
Directions for the counters
- The balls have to be put in the hoops. If the ball rolls out, the player has to go back to put the ball back in the hoop!
- All four hoops have to be processed in order. The player is not allowed to run between 2 hoops and change the balls!

Goal;
The teams on the mats have to conquer 4 cones without being tagged in x number of minutes
Requirements;
- Pairs on the 3 mats (to be expanded to 2 pairs)
- 2 taggers between mats and cones
- 9 cones around a field's length from the mats.
Game explanation;
The pair on the mat has conquer a mat hand in hand or otherwise connected.
The taggers are going to try to tag the pair.
If one of the pair is tagged, they have to go back to their mat and try again.
The first at the four cones has one. The team with the least cones are going to be the taggers.
Set a time limit for an x number of minutes to keep the flow in the game.
- You are in pairs bsp;
- The one has a tennis ball, and the other a cone.
- One is holding the cone in a triangle and tries to catch the tennis ball thrown by the other.
- The catcher then tries to push the ball to the thrower.
- You do this 10x and then change.
- Also pay attention to leg work
The hands are positioned like this:
- The circle is the cone.
- The point of the cone has to point to the nose of the kid.
- You need little cones.

With this exercise, younger children can practice overarm throwing.
- Give everybody a ball and have them show how they play overarm
- Is this not correct (for example, no pizza slice, or under the head), correct them, show how it has to be done.
- Have them throw against the wall, this provides lots of ball contact.
- Make pairs and have them throw over the net, to learn them to play high.
- Meanwhile, correct technique mistakes, but stay positive.
- Ask afterwards what they have learned, to make them think about it again.
Focus of this exercise is the service pass.
Start serving calmly, raise pressure in the course of the exercise.
- A serves to B
- B passes to C
- C catches, and joins position D
- D serves or E
- E passes to F
- F catches and joins position A
Expansions:
- A takes 3 steps into the field, after the pass/set up follows a controlled straight attack, which A defends himself .
- A catches ball, and gives it to a reserve server on position A
- Idem for D
8 Players: reserve on serving position
10 players: position reserve on serving position and pass
12 players: 2 reserves serving position, 1 reserve pass position
14 players: 2 reserves on serving position and pass

- Rebounding (per 2): wrist hit, correct foot forward, weaponing, hit the ball
- Kids bump with the ball on the ground to control afterwards and then hit the ball.
- FIRST (individually): hit downwards (wrist hit, correct foot forward, weaponing)
- THEN (individually): hit with wrist hit over the net
- THEN (per 2): hit with wrist hit over the net. The other kid defends this ball and hits back
- LAST (per 2): but then on points
- Per 2, each on one side of the field + a ball. Steps of attack run and then hit underneath the net ( 1 hand points to the ball, the other hand hits, wrist clamps around ball) other catches and does the same.
- Kids keep the balloon up and have to listen to the trainer. If the trainer claps 1x, the kids have to hit the balloon with the right hand (left foot forward, other hand is pointing). Clapping 2x hit left hand (right foot forward, other hand pointing)
- Kids are randomly walking over the field. When the trainer calls, they have to find a friend as fast as possible. They stand 4 steps away of each other, and calmly hit the balloon to each other (correct foot forward, pointing). This is how the kids change balloons. Balloon is caught overarm or underhand.
- Idem but with regular ball. They do not hit straight, but to the ground (wrist hit). Catch overarm
- Idem but pluck from the air and catch overarm
- Idem but pluck from the air, control, and throw back to the other (kids each have their own ball)
- Idem but with regular ball. They do not hit straight, but to the ground (wrist hit). Catch overarm

Basic exercise:
- Trainer throws the ball, player catches the ball and puts it in the cart.
- Then the player goes to the ladder, goes through it, and joins the next line.
Differentiation/Expansion:
- Throw difficult balls (left and right, front and back).
- Play underhand for themselves and catch.
- Two players get ready next to each other and have to call let go.
- A setupper is added who has to catch the underhand ball.
- An attacker is added who has to play the setupper's ball over the net.
- Player stands with bucket above head at the net
- You can move a little, but not bend over!
- Player with bucket remains for 1 round
- Trainer is on the end line/or in the middle of the field with 2 lines players:
- 3 players with ball (with trainer)
- 3 without ball (on the end line)
- Player with ball pushes ball in hands trainer
- Trainer randomly throws ball in field and player dunks ball in bucket
- in the bucket is a point
- player takes his own ball and joins line with ball
- walk back around
- in the bucket is a point
- Make increasingly difficult!

The trainer is on one side of the net, the children are on the other side of the net in a line behind the end line
The first of the line enters and performs the exercises
- 2 upper arms in the neck, let bounce, and catch

- Repeat the same movement with our left leg.
- Repeat these movements a number of times.
Usually, the arms are left beside the body or are stretched above the head.
Some volleyball players perform this exercise with their arms stretched forward as if they want to play a ball underhand.

- Bring your hands to the ground from an upright position and keep your legs stretched.
- Take small steps forward with your hands until you cannot go any further..
- Then move your feet towards your hands until you cannot go any further. Take small steps, only using your ankles to walk.
