Volleyballexercises for u9

Last update: january 2026

The game is played with at least 4 players

  • 1 mouse who has a t-shirt or piece of cloth in the back of his trousers
  • 1 dog who has a tennis ball
  • 2 cats without attribute

  • the mouse runs around with the dog,
  • the cats try to grab the tail of the mouse and bring it to their cone
  • But the dog can tap the cat with the tennis ball and it will do a punishment of its choice in the camp.
  • If there are more players a group can be created and 2 games can be played together.
  • players stand in groups of 3
  • 1 player sits on a skirting board (2 parts of it) with feet on the ground (in proper position like reception) on the 3m line and plays the ball in reception position to the passer.
  • Another player stands on the passer position and will catch the ball which the player on the skirting board will play to him in reception.
  • A 3rd player (standing on a rise) throws or hits the ball to the player on the skirting board.
  • This ball must come from high so that there is a build up to a solid reception.
  • The passer throws every time the caught ball to the one who throws in.
  • After x number of times you change positions.

Setup: Each player has a ball.

Everyone walks through each other, bouncing a ball, and carries out the following tasks.

Signals + command

  • On 1: bounce the ball to the right.
  • At 2: bounce the ball to the left
  • At 3: ba with both hands on collision
    • Follow your way with the other hand.
  • Pick up the ball with 1 or 2 hands after bounce
  • Leave your own ball behind after bounce as quickly as possible to intercept another ball

More leaning towards keys:

  • After dribbling ball catch own ball above head, then throw ball into air again without letting ball drop under eyes.
  • Same as before, hold for 1 second
  • Same as first, shorten contact
  • Idem, but first catch the ball, then touch it away
  • Ditto, but with double key

Pay attention in the exercises:

  • Pass must come high so player can catch the ball 'overhand'.
  • Pass to the right, right foot forward
  • Pass to the left, left foot forward
  • Eyes" of the shoulders in the direction of play

The exercise:

  • 3 pairs with 1 ball.
  • 1 and 2 stand next to each other, not too close to the net.
  • 3 faces 1 in the back of the court.
  • 1 throws straight at 3 and 3 tests diagonally to 2.
  • 2 catches and then throws straight to 3 and 3 keys diagonally to 1.
  • So 3 moves around all the time.

keys-at-1-angle

  1. in pairs. 1 works the other has rest
    • bench up and down with 2 legs at the same time (3x 20 - if you can)
    • bench up and down, alternating left and right (3x 20)
  2. Push-ups, remember that their backs are straight
  3. Abdominal muscle:
    • ball in your hands, legs up and try to touch the toes with the ball (30x)
    • Place ball on the ground left and right of your body with your arms stretched out (both 30x)
  4. Stand between 2 lines and move LAOW and touch the side lines
  • 2 teams of 4 with a net in between. In both teams 1 sv. The rest is divided in the back of the field.
  • Trainer introduces ball and 3 players defend ball and pass to sv.
  • If ball is played by la, then set up at mid or back, etc. Always in principle 2 attackers
  • Attack blocked by sv and try to defend ball and build attack.
  • When ball hits ground I play another ball in. After a while play to other team. Possibly exchange players.
  • Gets a point if you score an attack without touching. Otherwise, point for other team.

Goal of the exercise:

Increase speed and agility.

Explanation of the exercise:

Teams stand behind a pawn. Player 1 runs to the next pawn, goes around it and runs back. Player 2 can start when player 1 is back. The team that finishes first wins. Different forms: sprint, frog jump, tide, knee lift, hopscotch, wheelbarrow, sprint with ball, overhead play and underarm play.

XL Challenge:

Place a balloon on centerline. At the sign of the trainer you have to sprint to the balloon and then dive and blow very hard. After being tapped the next player can blow away the balloon. The player who is first to blow the balloon over the backline wins.

Duration of the exercise:

10-15 minutes.

  • group of 4-6
  • choose a word beforehand with about 6 to 7 letters (e.g. serve)
  • the first serves on a place in the field
    • You can also place a number of mats or hoops.
  • the others must serve on the same spot
    • The 1st one also joins in.
  • If this doesn't work out they get a letter.
  • if you have the whole word you are finished
    • possibly play bra against the wall or something
  • Again with someone else as first.

There is a compass and he gets the assignment to go to the mentioned spot. (depending on the number of players).

  4. Stand between 2 lines and move LAY and touch the side lines
  5. Tipping: individually through the field
  1. Extend your arms out to the sides with your fists clenched and your thumbs up.
  2. Bend forward with your left leg extended until your upper body is completely horizontal while balancing on your right foot. Move your left leg and torso as one.
  3. Do the same with your right leg while balancing on your left foot.
  4. Repeat these movements several times, alternating between your left and right legs.

  • The players start by throwing the ball over.
  • After throwing the ball, each player walks around the pawn to the other side.
  • One of the players then determines how the game is played and how the players move around the pawn.
  • The other players imitate this player.

along-playing-walking-around-pawn

  • Trainer throws the ball to the midfielder
  • He passes to SV
  • SV gives setup
  • Striker plays ball SLIMLY over the net
    • so just over the net
    • Or in the back of the field in the corners
  • Attacker hates the ball and puts it with trainer (in the box)
  • Everybody turns 1 spot (runs after their own ball)
  • If necessary put hoops (= opponents) where they do not have to play.
  • Give instructions all the time
    • playing-tactically-1

Line up behind the back line. Trainer throws a ball into the field from the opposite field.

1. Ball must bounce between outstretched arms2
. Extend to bounce between arms with 1 knee on the ground (standing still)
3. Extend to bounce between arms with 1 knee on the ground (standing still) and feet pointing in the right direction4
. Extend to OH play on the basket / catcher on the distributor spot (pay attention to continuously stretched arms & sitting low) 5. Extend
to OH play + attack (still coming from a row, but now with 1 game already in the field)

Line up behind the back line. Trainer throws a ball (high) into the field from the opposite field.

1. Ball must be caught with arms extended above head.
2. Extend to catching with arms stretched above head + standing still while catching3
. Extend to catching with arms stretched above head + standing still while catching + feet in right direction4
. Extend to playing BH on the basket / catcher on the distributor spot
5. Extend to playing BH + attacking (still coming from a row, but now with 1 game already in the field)

with this exercise the players learn to play 'smart'. just over the net or in the back corners

bra-in-hoops-playing-on-mats

  • Passers on position 5 and 6
  • Attacker on the left front side
  • sv at position 2-3
  • Trainer throws ball to passers
  • Passer gives pass to SV at position 2/3
  • SV passes ball BH to left front player
  • There is a two man block
  • Catcher on the opposite side
  • on the other field there are 5 hoops
    • 1 in all corners of the field and 1 in the middle of the field
  • player runs in and tries to play ball into the hoop
  • if successful, SV and playerhave apoint.
  • If the ball is blocked, the blockers have a point.
  • After 10 attacks change

After 10 minutes we make it more difficult:

A block is added, the outside player closes the block diagonally (left hand at attacker's arm).

The blocker also gets points (touching the ball = 1, killing block = 2).

simple running exercises for warming up, in which concentration and reaction also play an important role. Organisation: Pairs in an empty, marked out space.

Walk behind each other in a steady pace, criss-crossing the whole room. Number 2 follows every movement of number 1 as fast as possible, keeping about 1 metre distance. After a while change.

As a., but now the front runner tries to lose the back runner by sudden feints and/or tempo changes.

As a., but now other movements are also allowed: cross passes, jumping, lying down quickly and getting up again, etc.

Variations:

  • Perform the same exercises with music
  • Do the same exercises in groups of three or four. In this form, 'comical' situations will certainly occur now and then. It doesn't have much to do with korfball then.
  • No more pairs: everyone walks freely through each other. The players walk towards each other, feint and then pass to the left.
  • Like d., but now passing on the right
  • Like d., but now they turn around each other and walk back.
  • Special exercise for getting used to the hall: walk criss-cross through the whole hall, but not touching any line. Especially in halls with a lot of lines on the floor this is a good and fun exercise to get the 'contact with the hall' back in the legs.
  • Like g., but now keep walking on the lines.
  • group of 4-6
  • choose a word beforehand with +- 6 to 7 letters (e.g. serve)
  • The first serves on a spot in the field.
    • if necessary, place a number of mats or hoops.
  • The others must serve on the same spot
    • The 1st one also joins in.
  • If this doesn't work, they get a letter.
  • if you have the whole word you are finished
    • possibly play bra against the wall or something
  • Again with someone else as first.

back-and-forth-fdb-In pairs, facing each other, start at the pawn. On command move sideways to the sideline. Start each in a different direction. Back to the other side and back to the pawn. Who touches the pawn first. At the same time the next pair starts. Make sure there is a change in the pairs.

When there are more than 9 players, double the number. (Also suitable for playing independently and setting out the next exercise in the meantime).
