Basketball drills for technique defense

  • Basic Setup:
    • 2 players defense on each side of the court
    • 2 players at the height of the extension of the free throw square on each side of the field
    • 3 players in offense
  • Conduct:
    • 3 players play 3 against 2
    • The rebounder gives an outlet pass to a player on the side of the field
    • The rebounder joins in offense to the other side of the field
  • Progression:
    • AFTER

  • 1 player, not actively involved in the game, on the baseline
  • 1 player, not actively involved in the game, around the 3-point line
  • Player on the baseline passes tightly to the player standing around the 3 point line
  • Player on the 3 point line shoots
  • Team blue provides a good close out
  • Team red and blue fight for the rebound
  • After the rebound there is a 2 vs. 2 situation and they continue until there is a score
  • Explain well in advance what constitutes a good close out
  • With a large group, divide the players over several baskets

  • Conduct:
    • 1 against 1 on each side of the field
    • Defense stays standing when scoring
    • To score first 10 times
  • Progression:
    • Maximum of 5 dribbles from as soon as you cross the center line
  • Regression:
    • Defense with hands behind back

    • The middle group has the ball

    • The middle man chooses who to pass to, left or right

  • Process:
    • The middle player chooses who to pass to, left or right
    • The player who gets the ball dribbles to the center line
    • The player who does not get the ball runs to the center line
    • The outside players play 2 against 1

  • Starting lineup:
    • 3 vs. 3 on half court
    • 1 passer
  • Conduct:
    • We play 3 against 3
    • The passer does not participate in the attack, only passing
    • After 3 attacks the passer changes with someone else
  • Progression:
    • First 3 passes without dribbling
  • Regression:
    • Defense with hands behind the back

    • 4-on-4 on a half court
    • The player with the ball has an advantage
    • The player with the disadvantage is off the field

  • Course:
    • Playing 4 against 4
    • The right forward has the ball and starts the game
    • The player with the disadvantage may only defend when the forward dribbles
    • Important is that the players rotate well; helpside defense
    • Rotate clockwise on each new play

  • Progression:
    • The player at a disadvantage stands behind the right forward
    • The player at a disadvantage stands next to the right forward
    • The player at a disadvantage stands in front of the right forward; disadvantage falls away
    • Maximum of 3 dribbles per player

  • Regression:
    • The player at a disadvantage stands off the field

    • Each 2 form a team
    • Each team has 1 ball
    • Maximum of 2 teams per goal

  • Conduct:
    • Playing 1 against 1
    • Defense passes the ball to offense; at the level of the three-point line
    • Each team takes turns so we don't get in each other's way
    • Each team stays on its own half

  • Progression:
    • Maximum of 3 dribbles

  • Regression:
    • Defense with 1 hand behind the back
    • Defense with both hands behind the back

  • The attacker tries to score as quickly as possible.
  • The defender sprints back to stop this.
  • There is only one chance to shoot.
  • After the attack, the attacker becomes the defender and vice versa.
