Handball drills for technique condition

All players start on the LO in a line, everyone has a ball. In the field there are poles to finish on the spots LH, LO, MO, RO, RH.

  • Player 1 starts with a cross and shoots at goal.
  • Player 1 walks backwards to the LO, picks up the ball there.
  • Player 1 rounds the LO, passes to MO etc.
This has to be done on a high tempo and with high intensity! Players must be tired.

  • 2 Benches face each other, between 6 and 8 meters apart
  • On every bench there are 4 to 6 pawns
  • There are 2 teams who must try to knock off the pawns by throwing them over.
  • Pawns that have fallen down can be taken to your own side
  • The team that has all the pawns wins
Outdoors:
  • Place the pawns in bicycle tires, where you are not allowed to stand inside.

Relay
  • 2 Groups stand in a row next to each other
  • Starting point and ending point are marked with a pawn
  • The player in front of the group rolls the ball backwards between all legs.
  • All players where the ball has passed, lie down as quickly as possible
  • The player in the back jumps over the players, connects and rolls the ball backwards again
  • Important: Every player who has jumped over gets up again
The first group to cross the line wins.
  • Put everyone in a circle with the ball in their hand and hold it high above their shoulder.
  • They start with dribbling on the spot in high speed, after 30 seconds you do another exercise.
    • Skipping (2 times on 1 leg then on the other leg)
    • Jumping forward (2 legs at the same time) and back again
    • Stepping to the left and to the right
    • Shuffle forwards and backwards
    • High speed dribble
  • If this is too easy, extend the exercise by 45 seconds or 1 minute

  • Everyone makes two teams and is divided over the left and right corner.
  • The right corner plays the goalkeeper, the goalkeeper plays the left corner at the half way line.
  • The right corner has run on in the meantime, receives the ball and finishes.

  • Per pair 1 ball.
  • 1 of the pair passes the ball and sprints around the pawn and gets the ball back.
  • Then the other of the pair does the same.

  • Players divide between the left and right corner.
  • Each player has a ball. The corner plays the to goalkeeper and he throws a half break.
  • From the middle line, press towards the goal and shoot at the goal from the 9 meter line.
  • A defender stands there and tries to block.
  • The one who made the break becomes the defender

  • Per 3 players 1 ball.
  • Spread over the width of the hall.
  • Middle player brings the ball up in high tempo and plays around.
  • The one who is at the 9 meter line rounds off.
  • Variation:
  • Initiate a switch from the center line.
  • Centre player passes in front of the right half and plays off.
  • Left player starts in front of the right team and completes the play.
  • This can be done from either side.

  • Everyone makes 2 groups of somewhat equal level.
  • Both stand on the line and the ball is in the middle.
  • At a whistle they sprint to the ball and dribble a few metres further.
  • Variation:
    • Sitting and looking at the ball
    • Turned around (standing up)
    • Turned sitting
  • Make 2 teams,
  • One stands 2,5 meter in front of the other.
  • The last one throws the ball 5 to 6 metres ahead.
  • Who gets to the ball first?
  • The one without the ball tries to defend and take the ball away.
  • Train with the goalie separately on a goal.
  • Set out 6 hats at different heights.
  • The goalkeeper gets a ball.
  • Throws it back to the trainer and then runs to one of the hats and back to the middle of the goal.
  • For low balls, hand towards the ball and for half high balls, the leg as well.
  • Roll the ball to different corners.
  • The goalkeeper picks up the ball as quickly as possible and throws it to the trainer.
  • It is important to be in the right position as soon as possible.
  • The trainer throws a ball in one of the corners.
  • After that this is repeated.
  • You make pairs.
  • Both persons stand on the circle at the same height as the poles.
  • You run with 1 ball per pair to the other side of the circle.
  • While running to the other side you throw the ball to each other.
  • When you're on the other side you run back to the other side.
  • Variation:
    • Overhand throw.
    • Knee-down passing.
    • Passes with jump shot.
    • Sideways jump to the opposite circle.
    • Cross pass to the opposite circle.
    • Accelerated pass. (50, 60, 70, 80 %)
    • Sprint.

  • 2 teams divided over the right and left corner.
  • 1 defender between the halfway line and the 9 meter who tries to intercept.
  • One of the teams passes to the goalkeeper.
  • The goalkeeper plays one of the team around the halfway line.
  • The duo tries to outplay the attack and scores on goal.
  • After scoring, grab the ball and stay on that side.
  • The same is done on the other goal.
  • As a variation, you can put 2 defenders down to make it more difficult.
  • You can make it more difficult by telling them they cannot bounce.
