Volleyball drills for technique setting / overarm technique

  • Player A throws/hits ball towards player C
  • Player C passes the ball towards player B.
  • Player B sets up the ball.
  • Player C attacks.

Goal: 1st series balls straight, 2nd series balls diagonally.

Walking line: A joins back of line C, B keeps hitting balls, C joins back line A.

directed-attack-straight-diagonally

  • The trainer randomly plays 1 or 2.
  • From there, a set up to the other (1 or 2) is given for attacking.
  • Depending on where the attack happens, 6 players on the other side of the net take the correct positions.
  • Blocking, defending, and play over the net to me.
  • High tempo.
  • If the ball is not defended, throw it to my side of the net so that we can continue.

attack-and-defense-in-line-up

  • Learning to pass to playmaker (position 2) with movement towards the ball.
  • Line up at position 1.
  • Players there have a ball in their hands.
  • Player A plays to player B at position 3.
  • Player A moves sideways to position 6.
  • Player B plays the ball back to position 6.
  • Player A plays the ball (preferably) BH to the korf basket at position 2.
  • Player B catches the ball and joins the line at position 1.
  • Player C moves into position player B.
  • Player A moves to player C's position, position 3.
  • On the other side of the net you can practice the same.
  • Later on, alternate with player instead of basket, place of throw, position of return and position of pass.
  • To learn to always pass to the distributor.

Some variations on the well known butterfly...:

  • Service-pass-catch on SU-position, running after the ball.
  • As everyone is chasing his/her ball, each player has a different task, but if desired, a player can have a fixed position.
  • Variation 1:
    • The SU plays a set-up to position 4, where an attacker stands to play a (placed) attack on the receiver.
    • The rotation then becomes: Service -passer -upper - attacker - off-side - service etc.
  • Variation 2:
    • the fixed SU plays a ball to a receiver 'somewhere' in the field, who makes himself known by calling 'here'.
    • The SU learns to react on sound, the receiver learns to communicate his position.
  • Variation 3:
    • The fixed SU plays the pass backwards to position 2, where the receiver, after an attacking movement, catches the ball and starts serving.
    • In the diagram is variation 1

cones-of-the-bench

  • Player A throws the ball over the net.
  • Player B or C passes the ball over the net.
  • The other player quickly runs underneath the net, and sets up for the same player that passed.
  • This player tries to hit a cone from the bench with overarm player or a hitting movement.

Which pair or which team has hit the most cones from the bench after an X number of minutes?

With threesomes or twosomes with trainer.

  1. Player 1 plays ball BH over the net. 2 other players on opposite side: 1 in back defending and 1 set-up. Defender plays over the net to player 1.
    • Note: setup along the net. Turn in!
  2. Variation 1: 2-team starts in the back and runs forward. The player who does not pass gives set-up.
Variation 2: 2-team starts in the middle and runs to the back. The player who does not pass gives set-up.
    • Try to play through.
  • 3 servers on one side of the net.
  • 2 rows of the remaining players.
  • From both rows 1 into the court. So a total of 2.
  • Servers take turns serving.
  • 2 players in the court pass the ball to the other player, who set the ball, 3rd ball over it.
drawing Playing 3rd
Field is divided into 4 squares and in each square there is a pair; one behind the other.

The exercise expands and proceeds successively in this way:

On one side of the field everyone plays straight and on the other side everyone plays diagonally so that the ball "goes around.
  • Underarm passes within 3 meters and immediately pass overhead to the other side. Then run after the ball.
  • Same, only now the ball is not passed on, but instead a setup is given.
    • The 2nd person plays the ball overhand over the net.
    • The one who gave the setup runs on and the one who played the ball over the net goes back to pass.
  • Same, only now both persons are going to defend. The field runs to the double back line, 6 meters.
    • The ball is passed in jump to the opposite side. This may be long and short and it is up to the two defenders to solve this.
    • The one who jumps the ball goes after it.
  • Idem, only now the attacker is calm and defensible. Everything else remains the same, so the attacker rotates after the ball.
The pairs, as they stand now, stay together.
  • First a game is played on half-field straight.
  • Then the winners and losers play against each other on half field diagonally. Back line is 6 meters.
  • Games are played to 10 points.
  • Each player has a ball.
  • Overhand against the wall catch-throw.
  • Caught with the thumbs back
  • Thrown with the hands turned to high-five position.
  • Make ball contact shorter and shorter until the ball is played.
