Hockeyexercises for technique ball control

Objective
  • Improving the basic skills of pushing, receiving, and finishing.
drawing Passes and receives
Execution
  • Note: Short, firm passes.
  • Two touches: reception and pass.
  • The last player performs a dribbling move and finishes on goal.

drawing Short pass and finish on goal
Execution
  • A starts with the ball and delivers a hard, targeted push or flat pass to B.
  • B receives the ball and plays it back to the advancing A.
  • A delivers a hard, targeted push pass to C.
  • The ball can be played directly to C's stick or as a deflection, allowing C to score with a tip-in.
  • Set up the exercise on both sides of the field.
drawing Attack with follow-through action
Execution
  • The goalkeeper stands in his position.
  • Place two gates made of cones on the 23-metre line, to the left and right of the goalposts.
  • Player in red starts at the top of the circle and accelerates with the ball through the gates.
  • After passing through the gates, red plays the ball to player in blue.
  • Red sprints around a cone to put pressure on blue or to take the ball away.
  • Blue receives the ball, accelerates, and runs through the gates.
  • Once blue is through the gates, red may no longer take the ball away and returns to the cone.
  • Blue accelerates to the top of the circle and finishes on goal.
drawing Receiving and accelerating under pressure
Execution
  • A gives the ball with a push pass to the forehand of B.
  • B receives the ball with an open body position and plays a drive pass to C.
  • C receives the ball with an open body position and plays a drive pass to D.
  • D receives the ball with an open body position, makes eye contact with E.
  • E runs towards the ball, receives it on the move, and turns right with the ball on the stick.
  • E makes eye contact with F.
  • F runs towards the ball and receives a hard push pass to the forehand from E.
  • F receives the ball on the move, turns left, and dribbles with the ball on the stick into the circle.
  • F lines up the ball and strikes at goal.
  • G can be added later for a tip-in from F if the execution goes well.

Team Composition
  • Create 3 equal teams.
  • Team 1: Defenders inside the circle.
  • Team 2: Attackers inside the circle.
  • Team 3: Players outside the circle as the "bowl".
Execution
  • The "bowl" quickly passes the ball around and looks for an opportunity to pass to the attackers inside the circle.
  • To receive the ball, the "bowl" must look ahead and know where the attackers are or will move.
  • After an attacker receives the ball, they pass it back to the "bowl" and may enter the circle to score.
  • The other players in the "bowl" do not participate in the attack but can regain the ball, after which the play starts over.
Defence
  • One defender is allowed to leave the circle to put pressure on the "bowl".
  • The remaining defenders stay inside the circle.
  • The attackers are not allowed to leave the circle.
  • If the defenders gain possession of the ball, they may score in one of the two goals on the side.

Instructions
  • A starts with the ball and gives a push pass to B.
  • B receives the ball and sees that C is running into depth.
  • B gives a push pass to C.
  • C receives the ball and shoots at goal with a slap shot.
2 versus 1 with Depth Pass
  • A starts with the ball and dribbles around the cone.
  • From that moment, the defender may try to take the ball away from A.
  • A and B want to score together in the goal.
  • Try to have them run and give a depth pass.
  • Let them try a few times first, then explain what you as a trainer want to see.

Execution
  • Conclude the training session with a match form on a half field.
  • Adjust the width of the field depending on the size of your team during the training session.
Objective
  • Various technical forms to warm up with.
Setup
  • The setup can be either one-sided or two-sided, depending on the number of players.
  • At point A, the player performs a drag movement and passes the cones.
  • The player passes to point B.
  • At point B, the player receives the ball and dribbles to point C.

  • The player at point C receives the ball, turns towards the goal, and finishes.
  • After finishing, the player runs after the ball.
  • Point D joins again at point A.
Variations
  • One-sided or two-sided setup possible.
