Basketball drills
Setup
- Per 2 or 3 persons one basket
Execution (with 1 hand! other hand on the back)
- Explanation shot, shoot from legs, wrist turn, 1 hand, backspin ball.
- 1 meter from the basket, 1 shooter, 1-2 rebounder.
- Shoot 3 times, then switch.
- Then 2 meters.
- Then side. (through the board)
- Then side a little further away.
- Start with three on the baseline.
- You run from cone to cone until the coach throws the ball against the board.
- Nearest player takes the rebound, highest player runs away, middle player is guard.
- Forward runs to three-point line other side and then runs sideline - towards the ball and receives the ball.
- Dribble to three point line - ball to trailer who pins and spins + finishes.
- Other 2 receive ball from baseline and also finish.
- In return - blue sprints forward - to cone and returns to ball
- Red takes last ball and passes to front.
- Guard sprints forward and receives the ball from the blue and finishes.
- Playing from 5 spots
- After each ball is taken, an action is made to the basket.
- This can be done in a drive or with a shot.
- When the attacker is stopped by a defender, he passes the ball to the outside and cuts to the basket, via the baseline he mans a free spot in the corner.
- When a drive is initiated, the defense can either go into help defense, which always leaves someone free at the 3-point line.
- When the defense does not go into help defense, the attackers must run free in order to be able to receive the ball when the driver gets stuck.
- Important is the speed between receiving the ball and the drive.

- Tapping
- All players on the baseline.

- Slides
- All players on the baseline, in slide position and facing left. (or right)

- At GO sprint back to baseline and make other side slides.
- Up to other baseline.
- Squads
- All players on back line, facing center of field.
- 10x single squad.
- 10x halfway and through squad.
- 5x stay deep and only go back up after 5 seconds. (slowly!)
- Lunges
- Lunge walk to the other side of the room. (slow down!)
- Red dot dribbles in while blue dot runs in to defend.
- Red dot passes the ball to the white dot in the corner who immediately takes a shot.
- Blue dot runs to the low post after the close out and gets the ball passed from red cone.
- Red cone takes the rebound and goes to the top blue dot takes own rebound and goes to the corner where red cone was standing.
- Per 5 on 1 side.
- If not with 10.
- Omit 1 pass.
- You stay on the same side.
- Pass the ball to the other row.
- Drawing fouls, protecting the ball and watching.
- Going hard to the basket and on your opponent.
- Reading the defender
- Make sure each player has a ball.
- All players start on the baseline
- Alternate between strong and weak hand dribbling.
Exercise 1
- The player starts from the triple-threat position, protecting the ball.
- The player dribbles the ball on the ground 5 times. Then he jumps forward with two feet at the same time, grabbing the ball with two hands.
- Points of interest:
- Player dribbles the ball with the fingertips.
- Player dribbles below waist but above knee.
- Player stays balanced after jumping forward.
- Player does not look at the ball while dribbling, but looks ahead.
Exercise 2
- Player starts again from triple-threat position.
- The player takes five steps forward while dribbling.
- After five steps the player jumps up from the last pass and stops again on two feet.
- Points of attention:
- Player pushes the ball forward with fingertips
- Player looks in front of him
- Player stays in balance after jumping
Exercise 3
- The player starts again from the triple-threat position.
- The player takes five steps forward.
- After five steps the player grabs the ball and takes two steps forward as in the double counting rhythm.
- Alternate with right foot first, then left foot.
- Points of Attention:
- Players must hold the ball when entering the two-count rhythm.
- Make a circle with all the players.
- Make sure each player has a ball.
- Do several ball skills exercises.
- Do the continuous rehearsal, with the players trying to imitate the trainer in the middle of the circle.
Make sure all players have a ball
- The player starts at the post next to the bucket.
- Player dribbles to the basket
- Variations:
- The player stops on two feet = jumpshot
- The player starts the two-count rhythm = lay-up
- From the right side: first right foot, drop with left foot.
- From the left side: first with left foot, then with right foot.
- The player picks up his own rebound and dribbles around the pole.
- The player zigzags through the posts.
- The player then rejoins the line near the basket.
When there is a large group, this exercise can be done on both sides of the field.
- Who is the first group to reach 20 scores, wins.
