Basketball drills for technique passing
Warm-up position and outlet drill
- A) Player with ball starts on baseline.
- One defender (E) weakside of the bucket low offensive end.
- Pass the ball to pos. B,
- pos B passes to pos C.
- Pos C passes back to running (A) player.
- Player passes ball to the corner D.
- D) Corner tries to score/lay-up via the baseline.
- Defender steps in and defends baseline.
- Player A comes in like a trailer and can get the pass if D has not scored yet.
- Rotate every position, A becomes B, has to run back via other side court. E becomes A, B-C, C-D, D-E.
- Start middle A.
- Passes to the side B.
- B dribbles up along sideline and takes offensive position.
- A becomes defender.
- C and D set screens away from the ball, or backscreen.Defenders E and F allowed to switch and.
- Offence until score or rebound defense.
- (Till 5)Loser push-ups.
- Goal:
- Get shooter free shot wing.
- 3 rows. Guard 1 with ball.
- 2 and 3 wing.
- Wing 2 sets low screen perimeter bucket. (Later double with center)
- Wing 3 cuts through bucket past screen.
- Set screen so Wing 3 can cut to wing, free shot.
- If defender cheats, touch Wing 2.
- Wing 2 goes up, 3 go's back to orig. position.
- Always roll after screen.
- 1 go's to 2,
- 2 go's to 3.
- 3 go's to 2
- Post weakside high,
- post ballside low.
- Rest in regular 3 out/2in position.
- Goal:
- Free shot from Wing3,
- Wing 2 or pass to pivot rolling-off.
- Mind cheating defenders.
- Setup:
- Players distributed on the 4 corners of a half court
- Posts at the bottom
- Wings at the top
- Wing passes to other wing
- Post opposite corner runs up and receives the pass
- Post other corner runs up and does a hard basket cut to the bottom, receives the pass and finishes
- Variations:
- Wings switch sides
- Posts switch sides
- Players distributed on the 4 corners of a half court.
- 2 posts, 2 wings.
- Wing passes to other wing.
- Post opposite corner runs up and receives the pass.
- Post other corner runs up and does a hard basket cut to the bottom, receives the pass and finishes.
- Wings switch sides.
- Posts switch sides.
- B passes the ball to C
- B runs to cone receives ball
- B scores lay up
- B joins row C
- C passes the ball back to line B
- C goes to take the rebound from B
- C goes to line A
- A passes the ball to B
- A connects in row B
- Depends on the number of balls.
- In pairs or alone
- When alone:
- Start at your position, dribble across the basket.
- Set or Jumpshot from your position (Guard, forward, center).
- Up to 8 points.
- In pairs:
- Start at your position, pass to the opposite side of the basket.
- Last pass should be good so that shooter in jumpshot is ready for his/her shot.
- Up to 4 points per player.
- Losers: Slides over the width of the pitch, 1x back and forth.
- Players line up in 2 groups on the same side of the field (sideline).
- Everyone except the first two in line have a ball.
- The players without ball run to the opposite side of the field. (top of key)
- The first player with the ball dribbles to the 3 point line on the side where he is standing and passes the ball to the incoming player at the top.
- When he takes the ball. (Swing the ball, fake, crossover, drive and finish with lay-up.)
- The player who passed the ball runs to the other side of the court where his drill begins.
- On one side L and other side R lay-up.
- 4 Players on the baseline.
- Player B has ball and dribbles to the cone.
- B passes to player C.
- B and C go to goal.
- Player A and D sprint around the cone and start defending.
- 3 teams of 3 players
- 3 players in the middle
- Attacking
- Defense up to the center line, even after ball loss
