Basketball drills
- Set-up.
- Two lines facing the basket.
- One line is the Layup line, the other line is the rebounding line.
- First two players in the playup line have a basketball.
- The drill - First player in line with a ball dribbles the ball to shoot a lay-up.
- Shooter joins rebounding line.
- Rebounder joins shooting line.
- Coaching point- Aim ball and push it in small square on the back board.
- Set-up.
- Have players line up on the baseline and assign the players numbers.
- The Drill - the coach rolls or tosses a ball to the center of half court and calls out a number.
- In this case, #4.
- The two players assigned #4 attack the basketball, the player the wins the ball first is on offense and tries to score on the basket by the coach.
- Players are allowed one shot.
- Variations - Call two numbers.
Two sides dribble and finish. Side A with shot, side B with lay-up.
- 1 defender under each goal.
- 2 groups at the center line.
- 1 against 1 on each side of the field.
- Defense stays put when scoring.
- To score first 10 times.
- Right and left.
- Setup:
- 2 groups at the level of the free throw line
- Left side passes to players coming from the right side cut in
- X number of shots in succession
- Own rebound and pass to the other side
- Variations:
- Option 1: lay-up
- Option 2: shot in front of the ring
- Left and right
- Setup:
- Players distributed on the 4 corners of a half court
- Posts at the bottom
- Wings at the top
- Wing passes to other wing
- Post opposite corner runs up and receives the pass
- Post other corner runs up and does a hard basket cut to the bottom, receives the pass and finishes
- Variations:
- Wings switch sides
- Posts switch sides
- Setup:
- 3 groups
- Bottom left, bottom right and top
- 1 ball per group
- Shooting, own rebound
- Passing clockwise
- Variations:
- Advancing to wings and three-point shot
- Players distributed on the 4 corners of a half court.
- 2 posts, 2 wings.
- Wing passes to other wing.
- Post opposite corner runs up and receives the pass.
- Post other corner runs up and does a hard basket cut to the bottom, receives the pass and finishes.
- Wings switch sides.
- Posts switch sides.
- B passes the ball to C
- B runs to cone receives ball
- B scores lay up
- B joins row C
- C passes the ball back to line B
- C goes to take the rebound from B
- C goes to line A
- A passes the ball to B
- A connects in row B
- Everyone a ball and distribute along the length of the field.
- Dribble back and forth (jump stop, pivot across, or keep dribbling)
- Variations:
- Dribble left back, right back.
- Tap lines along the way.
- On the way 5x push ups, 10 abs, 30 sec taps.
- Low dribble (fast left/right), high dribble with hop, backwards.
- Between legs, behind the back, turn on axis.
- Stationary:
- Through legs (step out, dribble, step back), 8-step low dribble.
- Depends on the number of balls.
- In pairs or alone
- When alone:
- Start at your position, dribble across the basket.
- Set or Jumpshot from your position (Guard, forward, center).
- Up to 8 points.
- In pairs:
- Start at your position, pass to the opposite side of the basket.
- Last pass should be good so that shooter in jumpshot is ready for his/her shot.
- Up to 4 points per player.
- Losers: Slides over the width of the pitch, 1x back and forth.
- You make 2 teams divided over 2 baskets.
- Dribble around the post and pick a side.
- Run a lay-up.
- The first to reach the proposed number of scores wins.
- The losing team must run to the back line and back. (start on the back line and run to the back line)
