Volleyball drills

OBJECTIVE

Condition, speed, reaction ability and making appointments

ORGANIZATION

Two teams of three players form a team on either side of the pitch. Trainer + one player at the net pass the ball.

ball-cannot-cross-the-line

IMPLEMENTATION

  • Trainer and a player roll balls into the field. These balls must not go over the outer lines of the field. If they do the team is out.
  • The team that has finished is going to provide balls and a new team is going to enter the field.
  • Start quietly and then slowly increase the pace.
  • It is also important that agreements are made so that they are not all after the same ball!

GOAL

Reaction and Block defense

ORGANIZATION

Repetitions: Do a total of 5 sets of 10 balls.

block-defense-3

IMPLEMENTATION

  • Trainer hits ball against BodyBoard (or other board that can act as a block)
  • Player defend this ball.
  • Trainer pokes a ball over the bodyboard every x number of balls. This must also be defended!
  • Practise on all block positions and defensive positions behind the block.
  • Ball defended, push it back into the trainer's hand.

1 ball/ person

  • everyone plays ball individually BH against wall above a line
  • players count each other
  • keep score

GOAL

Improve reaction time and speed + go for the ball

ORGANIZATION

Players have to grab balls

IMPLEMENTATION

  • Row 1 players ready to play ball
  • Row 2 players behind trainer with ball
    • Front pushes trainer ball in hand and joins row 1
  • Trainer throws ball into field and player from row 1:
    • Runs towards the ball, lets it bounce 1x, 1x OH and then catches it
    • Runs to the ball, lets it bounce 1x, 1x BH and then catch
    • Runs to the ball, let it bounce 1x, 1x OH, 1x BH and then catch
    • Runs to the ball, does not bounce, and touches it anyway : diving
  • Connect with ball in the back of line 2
  • High tempo and adapt to the player.

GOAL

Improve reaction and speed

ORGANIZATION

Repetitions: Do a total of 5 sets of 10 balls.

IMPLEMENTATION

  • Players 1,2 and 3 with ball in a semi-circle.
  • Player 4 in front of the 3 players with ball.
  • Player 5 indicates behind the back of player 4 who has to let go of his ball.
  • Each player 10 balls. Person with most safes wins the game.
  • Player 5 picks up any balls and keeps track of the count.

reaction-exercise-1

PURPOSE

Improve reactivity

ORGANIZATION

Each player stands in a square of pots

IMPLEMENTATION

4 pots for the first person, then 2 pots for each additional person

Each game is given a number (1, 2, 3, 4). Trainer calls out number. Players must tap this number as quickly as possible and return to the middle of the square.

At 'change' they move one square forward and the player in front moves to the square at the back.

PURPOSE

Improve fitness and warm up

ORGANIZATION

Run in circles

IMPLEMENTATION

Run in circles around the field(leave about 2m between them)

  1. when trainer claps 1 time - pump 1 time
  2. when trainer claps 2 times - sliding dive
  3. when trainer claps 3 times - tapping the net
  4. when trainer claps 4 times - sprint a whole circle around the field
  • One side of the court is a team formation, the other players stand with the trainer on the other side.
  • Other players serve to the team (no serving exercise, so moderate serving).
  • The ball will be returned to the other team, preferably in 3x, but at least in 2x.
  • It is allowed to attack, stimulate also to "look" for the holes.
    • Pay attention to the positions of the other players, are they ready to defend the ball?
  • When the ball is on the ground the team position is shifted 1 position.

A cloth is hung over the net so that the players cannot see the opposing team. In this way a rally is played.

Which team has the best reaction?

  • Each trio has a mat.
  • This can be placed anywhere in the field.
  • On the mat 5 wooden blocks are placed.
  • The opponents have to hit the mat with their serve.
  • When the mat is hit, a wooden block can be taken from the mat and placed on your own mat.
  • The first group to have no more blocks on the mat is the loser (or finished).
  • Players stay inside the 3 meter line.
  • Here they have to play over the net in 3 plays, also within the 3 meters.
  • When you have hit a ball, tap the back line.
  • Everyone on one position, we don't play center.
  • Basically you play a small game, with only rallies.
  • At each round you walk the lines as an outside attacker, walk from the front of the net to the three meter line to defend the balls within the three meter.
  • At every rally that goes well over the net, you rotate one spot.
