Basketball drills

  • Two or three teams. (teams)
  • Per pair or trio 1 ball.
  • 1 shooter, 1 (or 2) rebounder(s).
  • Shooter shoots (from the free throw line, or lower position), then sprints to the middle line.
  • Rebounder catches ball, passes ball to shooter. (Good jump stop, right distance, call for ball).
  • Shooter 5 scores in total, then new shooter.
  • Team of which first all shooters have scored 5 times, wins!

5 lines on the back line, trainer has the ball.

- 2 rows are defenders, rest is attack

- Everyone has to touch the middle line and then attack or defend

- Trainer throws ball in the field or in the circle

1 line with 3 balls

- small field outside, players make a lay-up back and forth and pass to the next one in line.

- If you miss, you have to do it again (build up slowly first).

- Variant: for example 5 dribbles --> they have to make speed

Line up with space around you

- Trainer in front of the group gives instructions with ball in hand

- Ball left or right --> slide to the left or right

- Ball above head --> Jump

- Ball in front of you with arms extended --> situps

- Ball on stomach --> tapping

- Ball on the ground --> push-ups

- Ball around waist --> burpee's

  • Player with ball under each basket.
  • Whichever player has 25 scores first.
  • Then next players.

Introduction (good jump stop).

  • All players jog a lap around the field.
  • When trainer calls GO, make a good jump stop.
  • After a few times:
    • When trainer calls GO, make a good jump stop, pivot forward and run the other way
  • After a few times:
    • When trainer calls GO, make a good jump stop, pivot backwards and walk the other way.

With passes

  • Make 3 numbers.
  • Ball on side where 1 player is standing.
  • Player of row of 2 runs toward other player.
  • Asks for ball, receives ball, jump stop.
  • Pivot forward and pass the ball.
  • Walk on.
  • Other player runs in...etc.

Then also pivot backwards.

TIGHT PASSES!

Setup

  • All players scattered around the room (circle the trainer)

Performance

  • Jumping rope:
    • 2 minutes of normal (forward).
  • Mountain climbers:
    • 15 seconds.
  • Skipping rope:
    • 2 minutes alternating:
    • left front, right back/right front, left back.
  • Mountainclimbers:
    • 30 seconds.
  • Skipping rope:
    • 2 minutes alternating:
    • left leg, right leg.
  • Mountain climbers:
    • 45 seconds.

  • 1 or 2 rows just below the board on either side of the basket.
  • Make sure there are at least 4 players per row.
  • Ball is thrown against the board next to the basket and "tipped" into the tide by the next player (catch it two hands and throw it back to the board immediately).
  • The third player catches this ball again, etcetera.
  • After the action, a player closes behind the (other) row.
  • The exercise is finished when a minimum number of successful tips in a row have been achieved (without the ball touching the ground).
  • Variation:
    • Players must pass behind the coach before they may rejoin the (other) row.
    • The coach walks backwards slowly, which means they have to run harder. (This is a must with rows of 6 or more players).
    • The ball must be both caught and thrown again during 1 jump. (is quite difficult for smaller or weaker players)
    • Advice:
      • This can also involve deducting 1 point in the event of a failed tip instead of starting again at zero.

  • Player stands on the wing position with a ball, in front of her there is a defender.
  • An attacker and a defender are at the guard position.
  • The attacker cuts in to the 6-spot and back up, the defender defends along with her.
  • Once back up, the defender stands and the attacker cuts inside again and gets the ball with a good pass from the winger.
  • He then finishes 1 to 0.
  • Make it more difficult or easier by adjusting defenses or using more players.
drawing backdoor
  • The players all stand back to back on the center line.
  • On the sideline there are 4 different colored cones.
  • The players have to do triple trades on the center line and step sliders to the height of the color that the coach mentioned.
  • And then back again.
drawing step-slide exercise
  • Players divide into 2 groups at the sideline.
  • Group in runs 1 length back and forth from sideline to sideline.
  • When everyone in the group is back the other group runs.
  • Then 2 times then 3 times then 4 times.
  • Then reduce back to 1 time.

This exercise is intended to teach the basics of HELP defense
