Basketball drills

  • 2 groups at center line level.
  • 2 players look towards goal.
  • Coach throws ball towards goal.
  • 2 players fight for the ball and play 1 against 1.
drawing 1 vs. 1 on center line
  • 2-3 players catch the ball.
  • The other players line up around the 3 point line.
  • 2 balls.
  1. Players run regular layups.
  2. Coach stands under the basket and each time a player arrives, raises a specific number of fingers.
  3. The players must then get that number right.
  4. This teaches them not to look at the ball.
drawing Lay ups - looking away from ground
  • Warm-up exercise without ball - 5 minutes of +- 5 rounds.
  • 4 cones in a square in the room with one exercise performed along each side:
    • Sideways shuffling with the face turned to 1 particular side.
    • Swinging arms, per round this can be alternated forward/backward.
    • Side shuffling with the face turned to the same side as last time so that the other leg is now first.
    • Skipping, lifting knees, can be alternated per round with seat touching.
drawing Warming up - walking
  • Make 2 teams.
  • Each team stands ready on one side of the field on the back line.
  • Put as many balls as players on both the 3-meter lines.
  • When the trainer/trainer calls GO!, everyone starts rolling the balls to the other side.
  • Whoever has the fewest balls in their field after 3 minutes has won.
Different options:
  1. Player under the basket, pass from the corner and player runs in. Quick scoring from close range.
Make it more difficult by throwing first ball against the board/wall, then score.
  2. Player with ball on the centerline, 2nd player on the backline.
Player with ball starts dribble and 2nd player chases and must first throw ball against the board/or wall for score.
1 player or the coach shoots from the free throw line (5x)
  • Line up for free throws
  • Let the ball bounce on the ground (defenders must keep the attackers away until the ball has stopped)
  • When the attacker gets the ball, push up (whole team)

free-running

  • Breaking free, learning in/out, 5 out (keep moving).
  • Free with defender, receive ball and score.
  • 2x2, also possible with 3x3, 4x4 (vests), trainer passes (or good player).

  • Everyone has a ball.
  • One person is the catcher and stands on the center line, the rest stands on the free throw line and tries to reach the other free throw line without being caught.
  • All normal rules apply such as run and second dribble.
  • If you are tagged, you also become tagged.
  • The teacher sets out three areas of approximately equal size with pawns.
  • It is best to use the volleyball lines (see map).
  • There are three sections (see map):
  • Left: barons square (losers square)
  • Middle: princes section (neutral section)
  • Right: king of the court (winner section)
  • All students stand in the middle section.
  • With a signal from the teacher the game starts.
  • All pupils have to try to tap/strike the ball of another pupil out of the box.
  • If you succeed you move one square to the right.
  • If your ball is knocked away you move up one square to the left.
  • If you hit/tap someone's ball out of the box on the right you score a point.
  • If your ball is knocked out of the winner's box you lose all your points.
  • If your ball is knocked out of the left box nothing happens and you stay standing.
  • When the teacher gives the final signal the person with the most points is king of the court and he/she has won.

Players gather on the right or left side of the center line.
The first two have a ball.
There are two catchers under the basket.
From the center line you dribble to the basket and make a lay-up.
The catcher catches the ball and passes it to the next player in line.
You do this until you have scored 15 times and then you change sides.

  • One person shoots free throws.
  • The other players stand in the rebound positions and try to get the ball by outboxing.
  • Every 2 free throws you rotate.
