Basketball drills for technique shooting

  • Starting lineup:
    • 1 defender at the level of the free throw line
    • Rest of the players in the middle of the center line
    • Ball at the center line
  • Progression:
    • Player dribbles forcefully to in front of the free throw line and takes a shot
    • Defense moves but does not prevent the shot
    • Shotter takes own rebound and rejoins in the back
    • Defense stays standing x number of times
  • Progression:
    • Defense comes up
    • Offense does a crossover and takes a layup
    • Extra defender on the lay-up

  • Starting lineup:
    • There are as many teams as there are groups of 4
    • 1 player baseline on one side with ball
    • 1 player baseline on other side with ball
    • 1 player three-point line on one side
    • 1 player three-point line on other side

  • Conduct:
    • The players standing at the level of the three-point line walk to the other side of the field
    • There they receive a pass from the baseline player
    • Then they take a shot at the free throw line
    • The passer runs to the other side of the court to receive the ball there
    • The shotter takes own rebound and waits for the next player to come running in
  • Progression:
    • To first take 7 shots inside, then move on

  • 2 teams.
  • Everyone a ball
  • Shoot from 7 positions.
  • When you have shot, you go for your own Rebound.
  • If you have caught your Rebound without the ball touching the ground, you may score again immediately.
  • So you can score 2 points at a time.
  • Half Court shot, 1 hit no Rebound.

 - Balance on one foot, with ball in hand touch ground, get back up and take shot (free throw line)
 - Face away from basket, jump 180 and take shot (mid range)
 - Take shot without jumping (mid range) 
  • Starting Position:
    • Players stand at a cone or hat
  • Progression:
    • Set shots are taken at close range
    • Arm stretch with ball on hand, arm fold and hand turn and shoot
    • Own rebound
    • Shoot 10 times and then switch positions
  • Progression:
    • Standing further from the goal
    • Taking correct free throw
  • Regression:
    • AFTER

  • 3 Rows on the baseline.
  • The middle player has the ball and starts the weave with the 2 outer players.
  • On the other baseline are 2 players with a ball.
  • The middle man makes a lay up and the outside players get the ball from the players on the baseline and take a shot.
  • The player who ran the lay up runs the weave back with them.

  • Two teams, each at a spot.
  • If you score, you get to take a pot.
  • The team with the most pots at the end is the winner.

This is a high tempo drill:
  • One shooter to the left and one shooter to the right of the Bucket
  • The rest of the players stand under the board with a ball
  • White passes to the trainer -triangle red
  • The trainer passes left or right to one of the shooters
  • White provides a good Close Out, going high towards the shooter with 2 arms and contesting the shooter
  • The archer tries to hit under pressure
  • After 1 minute switch shooters
  • Variation: different shooting positions

  • Blue sprints to the center circle
  • Slides to corner
  • Sprint to center line
  • Slides across center line
  • Blue grabs a ball from one of the 2 hoops and makes a lay up
  • Sprint to corner
  • Tipping ball overhead on fingers and putting ball back into one of the hoops
  • Sprint to baseline -starting position-
  • Variation: With jumpshot; 15 hit

Weave with 3 players
  • Player 1 finishes
  • Player 2 and 3 receive a pass on the side of the court and take a shot with their own rebound.
  • They try to make 100 scores within the 1.30 min

Option 1
  • Blue runs to the middle and receives the pass from orange
  • Orange then fills in blue
  • White and Red come up at the same time that orange passes to blue
  • White receives the pass from blue at the free throw line and faces the basket
  • Red accelerates somewhere near the free throw line and heads for the basket
  • White passes to red and red makes a layup
Option 2
  • After orange passes to blue, orange also cuts across the right side and there is a second playoff opportunity for white.
Option 3
  • Orange and blue continue to cut in and white takes a shot
  • Orange and blue fight for the rebound and a score
* After building this exercise up to Option 3, players must be sharp, there can always be a pass or fight for the rebound.
* There is no dribbling
* Rotation is counterclockwise
