Volleyball drills for technique serving

Split group in 3

  • Field 1)
    • Place a mat randomly in every field
    • At 2 sides there is a group to serve.
    • Serve on the mat.
    • Follow the ball and join the line at the other side
    • If you hit a mat, you score a point
  • Field 2)
    • 1 field full of hoops.
    • Players  serve
    • If you serve into a hoop, the hoop is yours
    • Each hoop a point
  • Field 3)
    • 2 overarm players
      • the one not playing overarm has to catch
    • The rest will serve in turn
    • . You serve to score and then you will become controller
    • A controller will become server
    • If the ball is not played overarm AND caught, the server has a point
  • field is divided in 2 parts
  • on side 1 are 1 playmaker, the libero and the middle attackers
  • on side 2 are the other players
  • there are on each side 1 attacker and 1 blocker and a server.
  • depending on the number of players there is 1 passer or 2 passers.
  • the purpose of this exercise is to get in agreement with the distributor which ball you want to play.
  • With the middle players we will practice on the 'rise' balls and other variations such as the 'neck'.

Some variations on the well known butterfly...:

  • Service-pass-catch on SU-position, running after the ball.
  • As everyone is chasing his/her ball, each player has a different task, but if desired, a player can have a fixed position.
  • Variation 1:
    • The SU plays a set-up to position 4, where an attacker stands to play a (placed) attack on the receiver.
    • The rotation then becomes: Service -passer -upper - attacker - off-side - service etc.
  • Variation 2:
    • the fixed SU plays a ball to a receiver 'somewhere' in the field, who makes himself known by calling 'here'.
    • The SU learns to react on sound, the receiver learns to communicate his position.
  • Variation 3:
    • The fixed SU plays the pass backwards to position 2, where the receiver, after an attacking movement, catches the ball and starts serving.
    • In the diagram is variation 1

butterfly-variation

  • Playmakers switch between themselves.
  • Targeted attacking defender.
  • Defender catches ball.
  • Runs around pawn.
drawing Posted attacks
  • Divide the group into 3 groups
  • 1st group on 1 side of the net on the back line
  • 2nd group other side at position 1-5-6
  • 3rd group waiting room

EXERCISE:
  • 1st group serves 3x on the same group
  • 2nd group defends, must be in threes, these balls and attacks. All positions are allowed.
  • 3rd group waiting room

ROTATION
  • 1st group --> to the waiting room
  • 2nd group --> serve
  • 3rd group --> defend/attack
drawing Serve and pass in threesomes
  • Side one saves, defend on other side and try to score point against blockers with outs.
  • Other 2 who do not have to save, can come in to defend in backfield.
  • Have passers alternate as 'chameleons'.
drawing Storage - defense with fixed pass door
  • One always serves with a command and then runs after the ball.
  • Players move from A to B, B to C and C to D, then start over again.
  • Serving on the mat is 2 points, serving near the mat 1 point and serving incorrectly 1 point off.
At the end, who has the most points?
drawing Serving with assignments
Divide the group in two

  • Servers take turns serving:
  • Servers start serving, defenders --> pass to SV (pass MUST be good)

  • Defenders (3 in the field and 3 waiting) --> after each pass the player with the waiting room switches
  • TR is on the 2/3 position and he decides to whom the point goes.
  • A good serve is a point BUT if the defenders pass this serve better the point goes to the passers
WHO IS FIRST ON 7 POINTS

service-pass-with-three-meter-attack

  • Server hits the ball and serves.
  • From the side and back three defenders quickly enter the field, one passes to the SV at the 2 position.
  • He gives a three-metre pass to one of the defenders who did not pass.
  • Passers swap with the reserves.
  • After x times swap roles.
  • Option:L the server defends the three-meter ball.

Servicepass training for 4 to 12 persons4
persons:
2 servers at the servicepoint.
1 passer1
receiver
(dynamic) same as static but dancer plays ball on receiver. Passer plays to off-setter. (server becomes reserve, reserve becomes passer, passer becomes receiver etc.)

6 persons.
2 servers3
passers1
receiver
(static) see four persons
(dynamic) server serves the ball and runs after his/her ball.
Passer passes the ball to the receiver. The player on the right becomes the server and the server
moves in on the left. Catcher becomes server. If this does not work out 1 passer becomes reserve.

Extend with fixed sv and extra player on pos 4, who will attack. Passer becomes attacker, when pass is wrong the passer goes away.

Extend with blocking.
