Volleyball drills for technique attack / smash / spike / hitting
- pairs with net in between and 1 ball
- Make last 2 steps of attack run (large step + connecting step)
- Throw ball up with both hands
- and hit ball underneath the net
- 1 hand points to the ball
- the other hand hits
- clamp wrist around ball
- The other catches the ball and does the same.
make attack run:
- Right handed: left, right,left
- Left handed: right, left , right
Players sorted on length
- lower the net on one side
- player throws the ball to trainer
- trainer holds ball up
- players hit the ball out of the trainer's hands
- keep to your side of the net
pay attention to the run, not the shot
- you jump with your arms!
- you hit with your stomach!
- Players each have a ball and
- make an attacking jump towards the net holding the ball.
- When they reach the net they have to raise the ball behind their heads, jump and throw the ball over the net.
- Pay attention:
- proper posture
- proper height
- properly lift arms
- ball in
- probably a bit lower for beginning players to increase success factor.
- pairs with 1 ball.
- Net in between.
- Serve ball with two hands, and send it via the ground, underneath the net, to player 2
Organization:
- Field A. 2 players in pass P4 and P3.
- Sv on P2.
- Field B. Block on P2 and P3.
- Serve P1 and defend P4 and P5.
Execution:
- Service on P3 and P4. Then defend on P1.
- Attack hard if possible and tap otherwise.
- Change after 5 services.
- Server plays the ball towards position 6
- 1 of the 2 passers, passes the ball towards the playmaker(SV)
- SV plays the ball to the front left or right
- Attacker (A) completes the attack (attack pass to net)
- Attack
server -> passer
passer -> attack
attack -> server
- 4 gives setup on 1 and 1 attacks on 2.
- 2 defends to 3,
- 3 gives setup on 2 and 2 attacks on 1,
- 1 defends on 4 and it starts all over again.
- After 3 and 4 have given 5 setups they switch,
- the challenge is to do this while keeping the ball in play.
- field is divided in 2 parts
- on side 1 are 1 playmaker, the libero and the middle attackers
- on side 2 are the other players
- there are on each side 1 attacker and 1 blocker and a server.
- depending on the number of players there is 1 passer or 2 passers.
- the purpose of this exercise is to get in agreement with the distributor which ball you want to play.
- With the middle players we will practice on the 'rise' balls and other variations such as the 'neck'.
Some variations on the well known butterfly...:
- Service-pass-catch on SU-position, running after the ball.
- As everyone is chasing his/her ball, each player has a different task, but if desired, a player can have a fixed position.
- Variation 1:
- The SU plays a set-up to position 4, where an attacker stands to play a (placed) attack on the receiver.
- The rotation then becomes: Service -passer -upper - attacker - off-side - service etc.
- Variation 2:
- the fixed SU plays a ball to a receiver 'somewhere' in the field, who makes himself known by calling 'here'.
- The SU learns to react on sound, the receiver learns to communicate his position.
- Variation 3:
- The fixed SU plays the pass backwards to position 2, where the receiver, after an attacking movement, catches the ball and starts serving.
- In the diagram is variation 1
- Playmakers switch between themselves.
- Targeted attacking defender.
- Defender catches ball.
- Runs around pawn.
Trainer starts rally.
- Players must handle ball and rally.
Everything:
- defend
- moving along
- attack
- blocks
- conditionally
Move to a setter (at position 2)
- setter must take a defensive position immediately after the set
- is the attack outside, then the 2 other players must join immediately
- is the attack in the middle, apply the same.
Everything at high tempo and high quality
- A plays bot pass to B by playing it on mat and runs on to cone.
- B defends ball to A position cone and runs to position 2 to attack.
- A plays one control intermediate pass to himself and plays ball to C, who passes to attack to B.
- D is blocker!
A --> B --> C --> D
