Volleyball drills for technique defense / passing / digging / diving / reception

  • Practice on quick movement and stationary play.
  • 5 declarers red and 1 blue working player.
Starting position:
  • 5 people with ball
  • 1 player on both sides of the field at the back
  • 1 player on 2
  • 1 player on 3
  • 1 player on 4
  • Working player next to position 4 in block position
Exercise:
  • Working player does block and comes out like free blocker and defends technical attack from position 2
  • Ball is thrown in from position 3 to deep on 1. Working player does quick move to take out deep ball.
  • Short ball is played deep at position 5.
  • Attack from position 4. The working player does displacement to 3 meter line and defends.
  • Short deep ball at position 1.
Repetition:
  • 3 times intensively.
  • After this move on until every player has had their turn.

Setup:
  • 2 storage players
  • 1 blocker on 2
  • 1 pass
  • 2 defenders
Exercise:
  • Storage is given to or between the defenders.
  • Receptionist joins the pass.
  • Non-reception player attacks at 3 or 4.
  • The person who took the reception runs to the back and jumps over the hurdle.
Passing: storage player > blocker > reception > storage

The goal is to look at the block setting and set it properly.
This can be accomplished by following the following steps:
  • TR hits L.
  • L gives pass on 2/3 run-in SV and set.
  • In base to position 3 and 4.
  • Possibly expand to position 2 and 6.

Setup:
Which team brings in most gold pieces/ pits?
  • 1 bank & one-against-all
  • 2-4 gangs of thieves
  • 1-2 guards.
Game consists of 4 rounds of play:

Game Round 1:
  • Thief - attacker: per post only 1 active & 1 gold piece at a time try to steal from bank.
  • Collect in own vault -hoop-.
  • Guard - defender- may only defend outside the bank.
  • If the thief is caught so tapped, he must leave the gold piece in the police station -under a cone.
  • Which team was able to steal most gold pieces?
Game Round 2:
  • Divide gold pieces equally among the thieves.
  • Thieves: safely move your gold pieces 1-for-1 to other safe -from one hoop to another.
  • Thief -attacker: walk around your cone without the guard catching you.
  • Agent -defender: in this case may only defend inside the bank.
  • If the thief is caught -attacked, he must leave the gold piece in the police station -under a cone.
  • Which team was able to transfer most gold pieces safely?

Game Round 3:
  • Thieves: for x time, steal as many gold pieces as possible from other safe.
  • Thief -attacker: mandatory back & forth through bank = watch for guard inside bank.
  • Guard may only defend inside bank.
  • If the thief is caught so tapped, he must leave the gold piece in the police station -under a cone.

Game round 4:
Same as game round 3, but with double guard 1 guard outside & 1 guard inside the bank.

Which team will have the most gold pieces in their possession after 4 rounds of play?

2 vs. 6

  • Trainer starts by throwing to player/setter at 2,5.
  • Setter plays ball to attacker at 4.
6-setter defends fully and plays out the rally.

variation:

  • attack on 3 and on 2
  • exchange with players
Organization:
  • Players with ball on P1 on field A.
  • Reserve player on P4 on field B.
  • 2 passers -P5 and P6- on field B.
  • 1 attacker on P4 on field B.
  • 1 attacker on P4 on field A.
  • 1 or 2 defenders on P5 -P6- on field A.
Execution:
  • Hit/throw ball from field A -P1- to the passers on field B.
  • Take position of reserve P4 on field B.
  • Pass to attacker -P4- and at that moment the passers move to P1 and P6.
  • Attacker hits/plays the ball to the passers and takes the position P5.
  • Reserve becomes P4.
  • Pass the played ball and hit that ball to defenders on field A.
  • P1 on field A rushes under the net and takes the position of P4.
  • P4 plays the defended ball to P1, where it is caught.
  • Defender goes to P1 and connects behind and starts over.

1 fixed passer which changes regularly -if libero present, this passer will continue to pass-.
The rest will attack 52/C and MID

With more players:
  • Multiple defenders.
  • Blocking
  • Instead of TR a player can pass the ball.
  • On the side of the TR/ player setting up the ball put an extra player who puts the attacked ball in ball box and then goes to defend.
Rotation:
Defending - attacking - catching ball in ball box - defending.

  • Red player: quiet topspin ball to the blue player. Pass to SV.
  • SV gives setup and attack 'orange' player.
  • Use all positions to attack.

  • Divide the group into pairs
  • Each side lie 2 mats on the ground
  1. Make roll on the mat and sprint to the net. Block jump.
  2. TR plays the ball in.
  3. Ball must be played in threes with attack.
  4. Who has the most points
  5. For extra point: 2 mats on other field, if hit get 2 points.

Organization:

  • Field by 4.
  • A and B in defense positions V and I.
  • C on raise.
  • D serve, after serve ball pick up.
  • Band with 4 balls.
  • Raise is on position 4.

1st exercise attack position IV:

  1. D does simple serve to A or B.
  2. A and B build up and play ball over it D catches off and puts ball in band.
  3. A and B assume starting position on 3 meter line.
  4. C hits ball after which A and B shuffle backwards with A on position 1 -feet straight- B on pos IV -slanting-. C attacks, A and B build up and get back in starting position on 3 meter line.
  5. D throws ball up from behind the 3 meter line, A and B shuffle backwards, and keys ball high into the backfield -not to score- . A and B defend and build up.
  6. After 10 times, A and B switch with C and D.
2nd drill:

  1. A and B stand in reception at positions V and I, and move to the front after building up.
  2. C tips the ball, left or right, doesn't matter. First 5 balls easy, then 5 more difficult balls. A and B build up and play over.
  3. After build up, or ball away, back to player D. This plays short over the net. Defending.
3rd exercise:
Organization A , B, and C the passer stand in reception.
  1. D throws ball easily over, build-up and over play go:
  2. A at position IV , B at position V and C at position I.
  3. D crawls on the raise and plays to A or B.
  4. C comes running in from position I and builds back up there is easy play to D.
  5. Back to starting position, D now plays short to A.
