Volleyball drills for technique general
in pairs opposite each other:
- keep 3 balls in the air while only keeping one ball in the hands at the same time.
- keep 4 balls in the air while only keeping one ball in the hands at the same time.
- 3 balls in total, with 1 ball thrown in between and both have 1 ball. Before you catch the ball thrown, you throw one of your own balls up, catch the bal thrown, throw it back, and catch your own ball etc.
- play ball overarm, bounce 1 ball in between via ground.
- play 1 ball overarm, play 1 ball over ground.
- play 1 ball underhand, roll 1 ball with stretched arms over ground.
- Make groups of 6-8 players
- Put the players on one side of the net. This is thefree side
- On the other side of the net, you indicate a box. This is the prison
- 1 player starts in prison
- The trainer throws the ball (as set up)
- Players on the right side of the net smash/play in the prison and on the ground
- If this works:
- player does not have to go to prison and can stay on the free side
- If this doesnot work:
- player has to go to prison
- A player that is in prison can get out by:
- easy variant: catch the ball
- free player has to go TO prison, and the catcher can get OUT
- hard variant: pass the ball and another player from prison catches ball
- free player has to go TO prison and the passer can get OUT of prison
- easy variant: catch the ball
remark:

- Keep ball high, individually, with hands and feet. It does not matter how, as long as the ball does not hit the ground.
- Keep ball high with the fists.
- Keep ball high with underarms.
- Let ball bounce and go underneath as often as possible. Because the ball bounces lower and lower, the player has to lower more and more and move faster.
- Place two balls on each other and balance them
- Two balls on each other and balance, throw up upper ball, change the balls, top to bottom.
- Bounce two balanced balls and walk around
- Ball from hand to hand, and move around the body, from high to low.
- Keep ball between the legs, with one hand in front of the ball, and the other hand on the back.
- Throw up the ball a little, and then the hand from front to back and reverse.
The exercise below effective trains the abdominal muscles by throwing the volley ball overarm.
- Lie down on the floor with bent knees.
- Hold the ball with two hands, and bring your arms stretched behind your head as far as possible. This is also the start position of the exercise.
- Get up evenly, with both your arms and your upper body, to throw the ball as far as possible. It is important to maximize tension of your abdominal muscles.
- You can repeat this exercise 8 to 16 times, in 1 to 3 sets.
- Trainer throws the ball over the net
- the 3 players are standing in a circle holding hands.
- They are starting at the end line and try to have the ball thrown by the trainer drop in the circle.
- This is allowed after 1 bounce
- You can easily adjust this to the level of the players opposite you.
Trainer stands with ball box at the net, position 2/3, players stand at position 1, 5 and 6 for defense.
Trainer throws ball to players:
- If ball at position 1, players of position 1 and 6 exchange after playing back ball
- If ball at position 6, players remain standing
- If ball at position 5, players of position 5 and 6 clear after playing back ball
- As long as the passing remains good at 2/3, the coach continues to pass the ball.
- Players not participating stand around the field and make sure the ball pit stays filled.
- Split the group into pairs.
- The pairs will work through a number of stations, where different tasks have to be performed.
- Station 1: A slalom through several poles, with an underhand pass at the end of the slalom.
- Move as fast as possible between the poles.
- Station 2: One player lies down on the backline, while the other stands at the net with the ball.
- Player at the net hits the ball.
- Player in the backfield then stands up, and defends a hit ball at 7 meters, or a prik ball at the 3 meter.
- Station 3: Player stands in front of a trampoline, behind player 1 stands a second player with 2 tennis balls.
- One tennis ball is thrown into the trampoline, player 1 catches it before it hits the ground.
- The second tennisball is thrown quickly after it.
- Station 4: Simple, good block jumps, paying attention to the technique.
- Station 5: Reflex training: player stands with arms outstretched, a ball in each hand.
- Player 2 faces the other player, and reacts to the release of one of the balls.
- Do not make the distance between players too great to begin with.
- Each station has a working time of 1 minute.
- Divide the team into two groups and have them form two rows facing each other on the 3-meter line.
- Have the players play over the net and then walk around the cone to join the other group.
- On 1 side, parallel to the sideline, place a speed ladder and before joining the line, have the players do a drill through the ladder.
- On the other side, place pawns where they have to slalom, turn around.
- Importantly, the ball should not fall to the ground, communication is important.
- Optionally add a penalty if the ball falls to the ground. Head roll, Back roll.
- First with underhand throwing and catching - then overhand. Catch and push change to toss up and over-key.
- 4 gives setup on 1 and 1 attacks on 2.
- 2 defends to 3,
- 3 gives setup on 2 and 2 attacks on 1,
- 1 defends on 4 and it starts all over again.
- After 3 and 4 have given 5 setups they switch,
- the challenge is to do this while keeping the ball in play.
